The establishment didn’t endorse him until late in the game and some didn’t endorse him at all… And he’s the furthest left candidate we’ve had win a major election in a minute. Tells you what most of us think of the establishment…
How many people are going to turn out for AOC if she tries to primary Schumer?

If this headline sounds familiar it’s the exact same one you’ve been reading for 10 years without these people ever actually winning outside deep blue cities.

Because his policies are solution-oriented. There’s nothing wrong with pragmatism in politics. Its what has been lacking in US politics for a long time.

I watched Joe Rogan with Bernie. If anybody’s interested in seeing that , it’s free on YouTube. He’s smart and he makes sense….and he has been given a very shitty sort of placement with Democrats… democratic socialism is not the same thing as communism. I had a terrible education so it took me a long time to figure that out for myself. If you have the time… Please go forward and watch it. You will not be sorry.

Sounds like Mamdani listened as many have promoted his ideas for decades now.

Being able to afford to live in your own fucking country? Yeah – I’d say that’s a pretty popular position.
Too bad the old guard hasn’t been a part of America for the better part of the last century.
Do you all remember during COVID when the child tax credit came out and it was a whopping $600? They gave us $600 to get us though a fucking lock-down status global pandemic?
Well – you see back when these dinosaurs had jobs, a cup of coffee was a nickel and you could see a movie on a Friday night at 8:30pm, load up at the concession stand and still have change in your pocket from the $20 you came in with.
Back when these fossils were a part of *that* America, $600 was a metric fuckton of money.
Besides, Michael – how much could a banana cost? $10?

Good I hope they realize who they should vote for if there’s ever a new election

Yeah I’ve been making that argument for ages. Americans love social policy. ACA, SNAP, Medicaid and Medicare, social security. Any number of subsidies or free services. All popular.
Deep red states like Montana were passing progressive measures that rivaled blue states in some areas. Major conservative items like conservative bans on abortion fail even in red states.
Americans are more adverse to the term progressive than they are to progressive policy. And most people actually hate actual conservative neo-liberal austerity fueled bullshit.
Most of the Trump voters who voted for him don’t even understand when the service they get and like was from the government. I bet double digit %s of them thought the ACA and SNAP were church donations or private donations from Rich Asshole McBillionare.

It’s not just Mamdani.
These policies have been advocated by people like Bernie Sanders, AOC, Porter, etc since forever – and have ALWAYS been popular with Americans who can think critically and objectively.
The “problem” lies in the US “news” media, and Reich-wing broadcasters\AM radio – which has convinced many Americans that such policies are “socialist\socialism\communist\Marxist”.

Mamdani has an advantage. NYC has a lot of magnetism and the rich will probably grumble but pay, rather than move to Texas or Florida. Not too many cities have the appeal of The Big Apple.

Issue polls are notoriously useless. The only real polling for his brand of politics are through elections and candidates as far left as Mamdani would get demolished in a state wide setting much less a national one. I don’t think he could even win governor of NY.

We need to clone him for every state, and every major city

The proles are proling. One thing I do find hopeful as I’ve been reading socialist/ dystopia literature is that authors like London, Bradbury, and Huxley vastly overestimated how competent the ruling oligarchy would be. And I think London is the only one that accurately represented the feelings of discontent and frustration moving the working class to resistance and change, and even he expected a ruling oligarchy to reign for 3 centuries.

Are you sure Mamdani is popular? What about Angus King? He made a revolutionary remark yesterday, “Standing up to Donald Trump didn’t work”. I’m sure that’s a much more populist message than Mamdani, right?

But are they popular enough to get the 77 million brain deads who elected a criminal that lead a fascist coup against their country to vote for these policies? Honestly doubt it.

I’m reminded of how Medicare for all was overwhelmingly popular with Dem voters in Iowa during the 2020 campaign. You can make an argument that Bernie and Zohran are the real centrists by policy, and that “centrists” are just Bush neocons in blue.

If you get 10 random NYC voters in a room, 5 voted against the guy.
