  1. The damage is done. Prices aren’t going to drop. Corporations are now going to pocket the difference.

  2. Wait – so the tariffs ***are*** the reason food prices are so high?!? MAGAts are going to need a full day of the the thought police telling them how this isn’t true.

  3. >The growing affordability crisis has become a political liability for the administration. Cutting tariffs is at least one way to potentially make groceries cheaper.

Create a crisis, then “fix” it.

    It’s the MAGA way.

  4. wonder how he’s gonna twist this into a win when it’s clearly backpedaling on his nonsense

  5. I am so confused. If tariffs don’t cause higher prices, then how is lowering or removing tariffs going to reduce prices?

Plus, we’ve been told that prices are lower on everything and inflation is completely under control.

    So confusing!!!

  6. I highly doubt that companies would suddenly lower prices for their products. Companies would take the opportunity to pocket the bigger profit now. That what sucks the most, the damage is done. Unless they put regulations to force companies to bring down their prices, nothing is gonna get cheaper

Why? I thought tariffs were paid by the exporting country. Why does Trump hate America?

The funny thing about price increases, reg coffee will stay at 10$. Like a Dunkin’ or a Starbucks. Once they realize they can increase 20% and people will buy, they will not lower

Yup, first he creates the tariff price crisis. Then he pretends to be a hero now in reducing some of the tariff rates! What a class act jackass president.

  10. The harm is done. Prices aren’t coming down. Companies got to cozy with the new premiums.

  11. Everything he touches turns to shit. Which is unfortunate for the minds of millions of his maga cult followers who have been touched in the head by that vile fucking traitor.

Why?? I thought he said economy was hot and food prices were down?? You mean he lied to me again?

  13. “It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

  14. It’s like the dumbass didn’t know his tariffs would raise prices. We are in a real life idiocracy.

  15. No-Document-8970 on

This was his plan. To jack prices up, make Americans pay and get used to it. Then pull the tariffs and the corporations don’t change the price. They will pocket the difference while we all suffer.

But… tariffs don’t raise prices? The other country pays them, right? Why would he drop them?

  17. I stopped drinking coffee because of the tariffs. It was on my list of things to get rid of and it happened to be tariffed. But this won’t do much because these businesses need to now pay for *everything else* at an inflated rate they won’t be able to drop prices when their profitability analysis comes back.

We’re much more screwed than anyone realizes when we’re only starting to feel the effects of the latest round of tariffs in August. We’re only living with the relatively small January-April tariffs up until now. Feel like everyone is forgetting the worst of it was slow walked with delays and it takes a few months for the imported goods to work their way through the supply chains.

  18. Trump wants to be treated like a king, he raises tariffs people beg him to stop…. “Am I not merciful?”

  19. LazloHollifeld on

Too little, too late. Even if the prices on groceries recedes and comes down a bit the prices will still feel high to everyone. He rode a wave of discontentment over prices and then did fuck all besides his short sighted tariffs, and now he has inherited all the discontentment that put him in the office.

  20. existential_antelope on

And if you point this out to Trump supporters they’ll still make zero connection that all of the warnings were accurate and that tariffs are what fucked everything. They’ll defend this still.

Corporate media headline acting like he’s solving a problem

    He created the problem!

This could have all been avoided if the Republican controlled Congress actually did their job instead of letting Trump rule by executive order

  23. It’s like a twofer.

Gives him a platform to say that something something Biden’s inflation will come to an end to ,(re)capture voters while giving some breathing room for the midterms to come out swinging day 1 as to why groceries aren’t cheaper in case the Democrats take back some of Congress.

  24. Shitty title. How about “Trump removed his own tariffs in an effort to bring down beef and produce prices he caused to skyrocket”

  25. It’s not being done to help people, its being done to help his donors. Prices will stay the same, profit margins will just grow.
