  1. The history of humanity, and the societies we build, is progress. We have always collectively taken steps forward no matter how long it takes, no matter how small those steps are.

Conservatives have never been able to hold the dam shut forever. They need to learn demagogues like Trump speed the process up.

  2. Sorry DNC is more like it, Schumer and his crew are having none of it, may they all be primaried.

    >In sharp contrast to “communists,” democratic socialism is no longer regarded as a bogeyman.

I actually think Republicans have realized that, which is why they’re back to using the word “communist” again

  4. “Promote the general welfare” is now considered “Democratic Socialist”. It just stopped being allowed by unfettered capitalists.

How about a single Democratic Socialist wins a purple district before we all start celebrating?

Bernie Sanders has made democratic socialism respectable in America. Many people love him and his politics.

  7. Somehow crony-capitalism doesn’t get mentioned in the same breath as Democratic-Socialism. Our country made a hard turn after the Powell memo in the early 70’s. Powell was one who advocated that business was under attack and that they needed to strategize how to influence the population to support their side.

  8. This message should be given to the Democrat party too. As most are still shunning Mamdani. What does that say about the Democrats who are Not popular at all vs. Mamdani who is very popular? Democrats don’t know how to move on, or grow up. The filth at the top with Schumer, Jeffries and other assorted Wall Street Slave drivers need to go YESTERDAY.

Republicans will be against it no matter what, they don’t know what words mean.

We need the old farts in the DNC to wake up to the reality.

  10. It only ever was because Democrats are the fucking worst at fighting back. They call you a Democratic Socialist? Tell them what that means. Then they’ll be one too.

  11. Being a republican should be. Heck, it should be illegal, since it involves supporting a terrorist organization intent on overthrowing the US.

And when New York prospers instead of falls apart we will have a new age in American politics.

But just to make things fair, “pedophile”, “criminal”, “sex offender” and “twice impeached” are also not career ending for republicans.

Everyone thank Bernie for this. He’s spent years saying he’s a socialist. He’s never hesitated to claim the label.

Democratic socialism, to me, means there is a MINIMUM standard of living. Here’s the problem right wing folks have with that: if there is a MINIMUM standard of living, then there must be a MAXIMUM standard of living to go along with it and THAT’S what right wing folks have a problem with.

  16. They use the “Democratic Socialist” moniker hoping the connotation is of the old 60’s version: Weather Underground, Abbie Hoffman, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) Columbia protest, etc.

Today’s Democratic Socialists are what the left used to be before becoming pawns for PACs.

  17. Yeah, you should tell that to the Democrats in congress too. They fight just as hard to keep anyone with “socialist” ideas out.

  18. That seems fair since “Pedophile, rapist, fraud, and Nazi” are no longer career-enders either.

  19. The terror in which Republicans speak about Democratic socialism should be all the reason you need to consider it the better option; but if it was the death kiss the way they claim it was the Republicans would be leaving Zohran alone to let him sink the city so they could point to it as a shining example of the failure and dangers of socialism.

But they’re not…they’re fighting tooth and nail in terror against it. Tells you a lot.

  20. Everything they deem socialism, universal healthcare, public transportation, strong safety net programs, feeding the poor, corporate regulation, fairly taxing the rich….all sound like great things. I guess I’m a socialist now.

  21. It never was, at least not in the modern political landscape, legacy thought it was (see: were afraid it wasn’t) and did everything to stop it and only when more money than ever money-ed into a governor’s campaign before and establishment old guard dems were rebuffed in the nyc mayoral could they no longer pretend it was true.
