I’m curious if this pivot is in preparation to downplay and normalize whatever is in there. “Owning” something has worked for Trump in the past. Might be a Hail Mary but maybe the strategy at this point is it looks better to appear not to care than to panic as it inevitably comes out.

I don’t understand why that’s not the ballgame. It’s not enough to bring criminal charges because Epstein and Virginia are both dead and Trump can say whatever he wants… But he confirmed he spent hours with her in Epstein’s house.

Because he knows it won’t matter. Those files are as good as deleted. You cannot release them when they have an open investigation. They have 3 more years to erase them while no one else can access them.

From what others are saying, redacting or editing the files do not seem practical, since it would be flagged as edited and other countries have (but haven’t released?) the same files. So logically him saying to release the files because he can edit himself out doesn’t make sense.
The bill passing the house but not the Senate could be his angle, but just thinking outloud, if it passes the house with overwhelming bipartisan support I somehow don’t see the Senate as being a hurdle. It very well could be, but you would be running into the same issue as the house where your name would be tarnished forever.
So let’s say it passes both the House and Senate. Then it lands on Trump’s desk to sign or veto. This is the clutch moment. Does he sign it and expose the truth of what is exactly happening or will he go back on his stance saying to release it and he has nothing to hide because of “reasons”.
I am lean towards him think he is safe if he vetos it when all it will do is implicate him further. That is just my guess though.

The fix is in! They had a contingency plan from the beginning which is to redact anything to do with any Republican and leave everything about Dems.
We’ll see how that plays out. As a libby dude, if anyone on my side is guilty, I want them arrested and tried. If there’s evidence some Dem was being shielded with redactions, I’d demand we know who it is.
Now, my conservative counterparts, those “morally high-minded” paragons of patriotism? We’ll see if just having Dem and *only* Dem info being released has even the slightest affect on them, if it makes them see the conspiracy for what it is or not. I have no illusions about how this plays out but those very same conservatives currently saying “If Biden/Dems had anything, they would’ve released it!” apply the same logic to Trump at all. Why fight so hard against it if he’s just protecting Dems in it? How is it a hoax if it’s just themselves that are guilty?
I doubt many if any at all show that level of reasoning but I mean, we’re talking a 1st grade level of reasoning here. That’s all it takes.
