  1. He is calling for the House to vote on the release because **it will identify for him which GOP representatives aren’t fully loyal to the new corrupt administration.**

MTG has been getting death threats from MAGA since she publicly broke from the party. Trump wants that pressure on the mind of *every* GOP Congressperson who is considering flipping.

Same reason he couldn’t release his tax returns, he wants to but it’s under an active investigation

  3. “I can’t. I don’t have the power to do that.”

Honestly can’t keep up with the gamesmanship.

So who knows but one thing’s clear: you are asking a simple question, and no one in control wants simple clear answers.

  5. He doesn’t want them released and he’s not going to release them. What he wants a list of the names of Representatives and Senators that aren’t 100% loyal to him.

A vote to release them is an invitation to get primaried.

  6. He’s banking on the Senate to kill it…failing that he vetos the bill knowing there’s no way he gets overridden.

Yeah I’m not sure what the long term plan is here. Maybe he is hoping the Senate will vote against release and he can tell people to forget it. Which they won’t- because that will look even more like a cover up.

Even if it gets to his desk and he signs the bill, he is probably planning on having the DOJ scrub or destroy everything mentioning him. Which might work, until something leaks, and this explodes into a full Watergate-style scandal over the coverup.

“Bold move, Cotton. Let’s see if it plays out.”

Standard script whenever Trump says he’s gonna do something good, or halfway honorable that is what people want, like a stimulus, first he hypes it up, then he uses some excuse to back out, this time it will probably be Bondi and the Epstein Democrat investigation, they’re already playing up to it in the media.

  9. Because the DOJ is going to block it’s release under the premise they are investigating Democrats connections to

    Epstein.

  10. He doesn’t. Either its going to die in the Senate, or if it gets to him, he’s going to veto or pass it but then let his DoJ block it on the grounds that since they are now part of an active investigation (that he ordered a few days ago) they can’t release it.

  11. Smooth_Review1046 on

When the Senate finally gets around to voting on this the DOJ will be knee deep into investigations so the DOJ will refuse to release the files during an ongoing investigation

  12. It is political strategy. He’s pushing Republicans to release the files to shift focus to Democrats alleged ties with Epstein, while deflecting scrutiny of his own connections.

  13. He could just do it with an executive order, which he has preferred to legislation by orders of magnitude, to wit: has the congress passed anything he’s signed beyond the big beautiful bill act? Has his 2nd term been made up almost exclusively with swaps instead of laws?

    hint: he doesn’t

    its performative bs and either

    1) an R in the house has flipped

    2) Thune has said he’s just going to stonewall the vote in the senate

Remember when he’d just blurt out random things to dictators that would come visit, and then we’d get to hear about how POTUS can declassify anything and none of that really mattered? But then here we are again.

Because he doesn’t want the Epstein files released. I’m getting frustrated about all the articles saying “he flip flopped” no he didn’t. He knows they won’t be released so of course he’s saying what he thinks his base wants to hear.

  17. T3hArchAngel_G on

Is it a hoax? Why are their new investigations? He doesn’t need congress to force him. He could tell Pam Bondi to release them. This cover-up is so blatantly obvious.

  18. He doesn’t. He’s going to go, “Oh, hey, I’d love to release them, but my mean AG says there is an investigation going on, so they can’t be released. How long with that last Pam? Oh, until all the Dems are prosecuted, oh well then…”

  19. nasorrty346tfrgser on

very true, if Trump really wanna do sth; he is not going to go thru congress but just do it already

  20. “That, less so I think, there’s a lot of phony stuff in there.”

So it’s phony, but real, but a hoax, but worth investigating.

  21. Cause he’s full of shit. He has no intention of releasing them, what he is hoping for is that it won’t pass the vote, then he can claim he wanted to release them or some other version of a game he’s playing to fool MAGA into believing he wants them released. The FBI has already all but entirely removed his name from it, it’s just a political thing going on now. Shit, his names been redacted from it for months now, I am absolutely positive the files again have been a distraction for something else going on. Either the war stuff, or ICE, or the major grift he’s pulling. There’s *always* some form of lie going on with Donica.

  22. Bondi is about to announce a current investigation regarding Trumps “enemies” mentioned in the files that will upend releasing said files as they are now evidence.

  23. CatalyticDragon on

Trump isn’t calling for a release. He’s calling for Republicans to vote on it.

He knows they will vote against it to protect him and also allowing him to claim he asked for their release.

The vote also acts as a nice little loyalty test. Don’t vote to protect him and you’re on his list.

  24. The man can demolish an entire wing of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave on a whim with no compunction, but he just can’t seem to find a way to make this specific thing happen.

  25. Historical_Sun3421 on

This about the vote is Kabuki theater. He can release them any time he wants. He’s been told it’s going to die in the Senate so he’s going to pretend like his hands are tied.

  26. Leftblankthistime on

He doesn’t- this is just him trying to take credit for something someone else was going to do anyway and make it look like “he’s in charge” it’s nonsense posturing
