While I agree wholeheartedly with California on this (LEO should not be allowed to be masked and unidentifiable), they will likely lose in court. Federal trumps state when it comes to laws, and it would be nigh impossible to enforce a state law on a federal party. If California is allowed to enforce this, then they could, theoretically, enforce any law they want against any federal agency. Could you imagine if they made it so military personnel could not wear their uniforms or drive their vehicles outside of the military base?

Actual LEOs went through an application process, a physical test, a full medical examination including stress test on a treadmill, an interview with a psychologist, a written test, an actual oral board where you’re interviewed by other officers, a complete and thorough background check then, if they were lucky and were accepted, attended up to 6 months in an actual academy, had to complete multiple weapons qualifications, first responder training, were given an actual badge at a graduation ceremony, went through an actual 12 week long FTO cycle, and served a one-year probationary period (where they could be fired at any time for any reason with no recourse) before they were considered regular officers where they serve on the streets, wearing a uniform, wearing a badge, and not wearing a mask.
These aren’t LEOs, they’re wannabes who could never make the grade.

In part, this is a “you can’t tell us what to do!” response. But there’s a deeper issue they see: they’re trying to recruit people, and they know people aren’t going to be willing to do this under the threat of their identities being known. The people doing this understand how unpopular it is. They understand that it’s not defensible.
They *have to have* masks to hide themselves. There’s no way this keeps up without the mask. And the whole operation is threatened if California can pass this law. Because other states will do it too.
This can freeze the ICE process in its tracks. (Pun intended)

When you are within the jurisdiction of the state, outside federal property, Feds have to follow all laws of that jurisdiction. Otherwise they could violate election laws, could speed and do a lot of other things that federal laws dont cover.

I’ve been in countries where the militias, private armies, drug gangs, etc, terrorize civilians. They grab people off the street, beat them, run into homes, rape the women all while wearing masks so they can’t be identified. The civilians have to barricade themselves behind locked doors afraid to go out. This happens during military coups and civil wars. And it’s happening here.
