For this, alone, he needs to be prosecuted. He cannot simply issue terroristic threats as POTUS. There is no universe where that is a “protected action” or even an “official act”, at best it’s an illegal, unconstitutional order that should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. So the article says it backfired badly because it has drawn more attention to what Democratic lawmakers were saying. I suppose this *might* be true, but I’m not sure I would call it a backfire unless we see actual, significant change as a result of it (such as more military refusing to follow unlawful orders)
