This is not what MAGA said would happen. Or maybe it is? What were health insurance plans like in 1929? What were medical services like?
Oh well. Trump will just kill some more random people in boats, call them narco terrorists, and the MAGAstream media will gush how great things are.

Trump and the GOP are not panicking.
This is a cull planned for them by oligarchs and the Heritage Foundation.
Meanwhile taxpayers who have no health insurance are paying for their reps and senators to have good coverage.

I mean.. voters were explicitly warned, over and over again.
They’re getting what they voted for. I feel bad for the innocents who didn’t choose this. But for those who walked into the voting booth with “*whom do I want to hurt?*” as their top voting issue, I won’t shed any tears.

My job doesn’t pay great but I am so lucky to have great benefits including health insurance. I don’t love it and would like to start a business that centers around my current part time gig.
Even though I think the business would do well to the point of hiring people to join me, I will not be pursuing it. The cost of providing decent employer based medical insurance (even giving employees a stipend to privately buy their own insurance) is too expensive and complicated.
So here I will stay in a dead end job because the benefits are great and idea of going out on my own and potentially being bankrupted by one medical incident is too daunting.

This was all part of the Republicans plan.
The 8 dems who voted to reopen the gov took a gamble. We all knew prices would rocket up. They are gambling the media and public will make the GOP own this price spike.

I keep mentioning this just because many aren’t aware. I work in the non-profit mental health and prevention space and I’m on the second job in a row that relies on marketplace plans for employees. It’s called an ICHRA. Basically, my employer provides health insurance by partnering with a third party company. The employer gives their contribution toward my health insurance to that company, then that company brokers a plan for each employee through the marketplace. So every year at open enrollment, I get to shop ACA marketplace plans with my employer’s contribution factored in. It’s apparently more cost effective for the company and, instead of offering one plan, employees get to shop for any plan they want (although all of the options are mediocre or terrible).
What I’m trying to say is: it’s not just individuals who use the marketplace being affected. My employer-provided plan relies on the marketplace, which is why my premiums also shot up. I’m privileged in that I have an employer making contributions and people have it a lot worse… but people constantly told me the answer was to “find a job that offers benefits.”
Yeah, sure. That’s the solution… rely on my boss to handle my health. Jesus, this system sucks

This is what the shutdown was originally trying to prevent. Because of enrollment windows, we are largely screwed until next November. Private insurance has also not risen as much as subsidized, but that will change as medical centers need to recoup costs that aren’t getting reimbursed or paid, so the private industry will steadily rise as well.
In short, fuck you to Republicans for doing these cuts, and especially fuck you, Donald Trump.
If the medicaid and Medicare cuts are the center of a January shutdown, it may be easier to get people to take that more seriously. This is what many who supported the shutdown were warning about.

My dad makes $48,000 a year. His insurance went from $300 a month to $2400 a month. He is 1 year away from medicare and risks blindness if he doesn’t get injections once a month. We are looking at other options with the hospital so he doesn’t go blind.
