    TLDR:

    * President Donald Trump hosted New York City’s mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, at the White House on Friday, Nov. 21, in a meeting that turned out to be surprisingly cordial.
    * Following what both politicians called a “successful” private discussion, they took questions from the press, where Trump emphasized how impressed he was that he and Mamdani agreed on some major issues.
    * “Being the mayor of New York City is a big deal,” the president said, praising the mayor-elect.

    I 100% expected this. Trump loves charismatic people more than anything else. It doesn’t matter how much they attack each other from afar. He is extremely easy to charm in person. He does the exact same thing when he’s around Obama.

    I mean, he’ll be back to angrily posting about him soon enough but I’m sure Mandami just had to be like “Hello Mr President, you’re so tall and won the election by a landslide” and got him in his corner

    Trump is easy. Talk to him in person, kiss his ass a little, and bringing some kind of gift or offering is a huge plus! And that’s about all it takes.

    Mamdani has figured out how to play Trump, it’s not terribly hard. Blow sunshine up his ass and lights up like a Christmas tree.

    Fear of Mamdani’s socialism is overblown. For example, NYC’s income tax rate is less than 4%. Even if Mamdani is able to obtain a 50% increase, that would not be an excessive burden on affluent New Yorkers.

    Additionally, Mamdani is a reasonable person and has ample charisma. He seems honest and forthright. Compare that to Mayor Eric “Bribe in a Bag of Chips” Adams, and the distinction may have impressed Trump.

    This being reddit, many commenters see evil darkness behind every positive bit of news, still waiting for the 1960s “revolution” to fix the US’ problems. So knock yourselves out with negativity.

    This is why we need Zelensky back in the room with Trump. He’s charmed by the last guy he met with.
