  1. So “R********” is bad, but not all the actual unconstitutional shit.

Edit: Oh I see, his daughter has Downs. He only cares now that Trump is attacking his family.

  2. Of all the things to choose as the reason for drawing a line in the sand, I definitely wouldn’t have guessed this was it.

  3. Specifically his use of the r-word, often used as a pejorative against people with intellectual disabilities. This state senator has a daughter with Down Syndrome.

    Feels a bit /r/LeopardsAteMyFace material.

  4. He’s also only saying no because it will be bad for republicans not because he even remotely gives a damn.

  5. After a decade of awful shit I find it hard to believe that this was the final straw for him. More likely: he’s gotten cold feet on redistricting now that it looks like a blue tsunami is coming.

Gerrymandering can come at expense of really thin margins if you’re aggressively pushing it, and a huge blue swing could result in a total wipeout if they go too hard on it.

Plus it lets him distance himself a bit from Trump, which seems to be in fashion these days as T’s popularity is in the toilet.

  6. The state senators in Indiana didn’t want to redistrict anyway; they’re only even meeting because some of them were getting swatted. This guy was already going to vote no probably, but this gives him another reason outside of “Indiana voters are opposed to redistricting.”

Braun’s trying to ignore the will of the people, while the legislature’s already trying to think post-Trump. If they vote for a new map, they’ll make voters angry and may end up with more Dems in Congress. If they don’t make a new map, they’ll get primary challengers.

  7. You could oppose gerrymandering because cheating is wrong and you want your state’s citizens to be represented fairly. You could oppose Trump’s agenda in general because he’s an all around vile person that uses horrible rhetoric.

This guy is doing neither of those. He’s opposing this vote because Trump crossed a line that affects his own personal family. No virtues, no principles, just self serving indignation. What a pathetic way to come to the right outcome.

So Trump publicly threatens these lawmakers with primary challenges, calling them “RINOs” and likening them to traitors.

This is followed by dangerous rhetoric and threats from individuals aligned with the MAGA movement and people who are furious with their representatives for not unilaterally redrawing maps mid-census.

In response we get pleas for “civility” from Republican senators, but we know that if these violent threats could be even remotely traced back to some left-wing culprit, the response would be much more severe.

Republicans would be moaning about the pervasiveness of “violent rhetoric” from the “radical left” and “Antifa” terrorists, they’d be widely accusing Democrats of inciting violence. We wouldn’t hear the end of it.

But the reality is, these politically charged threats can be directly linked to Donald Trump’s constant use of inflammatory rhetoric, his hate-filled diatribes and his appeals to MAGA extremists and their endless grievances.

In the meantime, on platforms and safe spaces for conservatives like “X” where a lot of these pro-Trump fanatics gather, it’s crickets.

While bear in mind that this all has to do with Republican lawmakers not convening on a mid-census redistricting plan that would bypass democratic norms and give Republicans the ultimate say on who their voters are and not the other way around.

In other words, MAGA is infuriated that these representatives won’t violate the democratic process and join Trump in pursuing an authoritarian agenda to maintain their grip on power.

Understandable bit of “he only cares when it affected him and his family” but folks who use that word flippantly have never seen someone with learning disabilities react to being called it.

Seeing my amazing sister cry hysterically broke my heart.

Fuck Miller for writing that (because he did) and Trump for standing by it. And fuck anyone that supports it or uses that word flippantly.

This is the president of the United States posting this shit. Jesus fucking Christ, republicans. Cowards the fucking lot of you.

  10. Whatever. Doing the right thing after fascism hits, doesn’t mean what you want it to mean.

    Fuck you, hypocrite.
