Even if they don’t lose that seat, a radical change in D performance would mean their calculus on gerrymandering around the country will probably blow up in their faces. For gerrymandering to work, R voters need to be removed from “safe” districts and moved to more predominant D districts. If those Rs aren’t truly safe, they could very easily lose those R districts by whittling the R majority down below the safe level. They should be scared.
