Virginia Democrats are attempting to create a new congressional map in 2026 that could help them win four new seats.
Amid efforts in other states to make maps more favorable to Democrats or Republicans, Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Don Scott outlined the state’s plans to do the same at a meeting of the Virginia Property Owners Alliance.
I hate gerrymandering. An absolute race to the bottom.

If the MAGAts are gonna keep doing it, the democrats are gonna have to fight back.

No mercy. Dems got a big mandate in Virginia last month.

Do what you have to do to save democracy and then fix the stupid things later. The alternative is [gestures broadly].

Gerrymandering needs to only be done by non-partisan outside firms with the whole country held to the same standards. That said, for every district the republicans attempt to redraw their way, so should the democrats. This is how CA fought back, but it should only be a 1:1, tit-for-tat, redrawing from democrats to what republicans are doing in another red state. If democrats try to sway the outcomes too far, they are likely to lose their credibility behind the reasons for doing it in the first place.

LFG!!! We must win the House and hopefully senate before Trump does more damage

Redistricting alone won’t do it and has the risk of backfiring. It dilutes the Democrats in other districts and makes them less blue. A “moderate” Republican has a chance to skim enough moderate Democrats from progressive candidates, thus tilting the election. But most importantly, the Democrats must run quality candidates who people want to vote for.

I sure hope that many who did not vote in 2024 have now learned why it is so important to pay attention to the issues, not the rhetoric and then vote in 2026.

Republicans have decided that Gerrymandering isn’t against the rules, that it just is the rules, so, do it. Start playing to win.

Considering their massive win at the state legislative level, I don’t see why they couldn’t do this.

I knew Texas doing this was gonna cause a ripple effect they didn’t plan for.
This is just Dems playing the Texas game.

Remember: the GOP started this.
Same thing with Trump going on about trying to cancel out Biden’s pardons because of “auto pen”. Trump 100% uses auto pen, the VAST majority of the time. So just remember that if Biden’s auto pen orders are pulled down, then Trump’s auto pen orders can/will be pulled down in the future.

Republicans started this shit. Although I thought Indiana wasn’t going to listen to Trump.
This happening in Virginia tells me they don’t think Indiana Republicans will hold out.

Let’s just stretch nova to include the rest of the state.

I’m somewhat skeptical VA is blue enough for this to work but more power to them.
The fact is, while both parties gerrymander, Republicans have tended to gerrymander harder than Democrats do. So red states have a lot less additional blood they can squeeze out of their maps than blue states can.

Which of course GOP will say is unconstitutional despite them trying to do the same thing in the states they are able to. Dems do it to balance the scale, GOP does it to keep power.
