  1. Why should they give a shit about a system that threw them overboard before they were even born?

  2. Helping to destroy the very policies that the Democratic Party had to fight to install was a stupid vote. Back to 1928.

I’m not young, I’m old, I’ve always been a Democrat, and a supporter of the Democratic Party and politicians.

But when I was younger, it seemed like the Democrats were always trying to do right for working people – it felt like they were at least trying to have our backs, but the last 20 years, it just seems like it’s all political posturing. Nothing gets done. Don’t get me wrong, the Democrats are FAR preferable to Republicans, but, while the Republican party is trying to kill us all, the Democratic Party is saying “Whoa, whoa, let’s calm down here, let’s kill just SOME of the people”.

So mark me down as disgusted like everybody else.

I’d like to give the young ones some encouragement and tell them that Drump doesn’t represent America, but damn if we didn’t elect this fucker president TWICE.

  5. Artistic_Frosting233 on

You guys are so fucking dense that you can’t even tell which party is fucking you over

  6. Apathy allows for more abuse in politics.

If you don’t like the candidates then you’re supposed to research and vote in primaries and lower level races. Actually, you’re supposed to do that anyway.

With both the surge in anti higher education sentiment and disinterested apathy in politics we’re speed running back to the days of only an elite class going to college and voting while the rest of of peasants watch tik tok and wait to die.

    Edit

People fucking fought wars and died to give us the things we denigrate and devalue.

  7. This is the same pessimism I’ve seen in older gen X people as well. Seems to be a cycle. Fall for the lefty propaganda against leftists, liberals, hippies, etc. Throw your support behind a Republican. Get disappointed when they do what Republicans always do. Lose faith in the system as a whole. It seems like this is the cycle that has caused America to have such shit voter turnout

The social contract was completely destroyed by the wealthy decades ago yet outcomes like this come as a surprise.

  9. No surprise – this is where unfettered capitalism will always go. Money and profit over all else.

  10. Hot_Ambition_6457 on

Makes sense. Politicians stopped representing peoples lives and started representing corporate overlords in the mid 80’s.

Anyone born after that period has never seen congress make an actual attempt to better the living standards of young people.

They made it a law that you had to pay a private company extortion money every year or receive a fine. They rebranded this law as ‘The Affordable Care Act” and then gave 11 billion dollars to Aetna/Cigna/BCBS.

Those of us who are conscious recognize that both parties will not pass **ANY LAW EVER** that does not benefit their corporate sponsors. And there has been 0 evidence presented to expect a change out of either party.

The right is operating in the open as a proxy for the ultra rich. They dont even pretend to care about constituents anymore.

Unfortunately the left is still *pretending* to care and thats enough for some people. They slap a rainbow flag on the product to distract from the fact that the product is 30% more expensive and 20% smaller.

  11. Well yeah, we see it all the time on here. One side is a dumpster fire of course, but any time a Democrat shows an ounce of leadership, the comments sections is filled with purity tests about how that person isn’t suitable to be president. Who is leading the party right now? What are they offering America?

  12. THEN GET F#$@ING ***INVOLVED***!!!

It takes lots of effort to make something worthwhile. Stop complaining and DO SOMETHING.

  13. Generation who grew up amidst a global pandemic, massive inflation, looming climate change, threats of a new World War and nuclear Armageddon, the rise of fascism, the advent of AI and everything that dystopian sci fi warned us about … Is pessimistic about the state of the world and our country?

    I can’t imagine why…

Also it’s not just Gen Z.

Sincerely, a very tired and depressed millennial who used up all their spoons in the last 10 years and has only seen things get worse.

  14. I am 65, don’t back Trump, and have deeply negative views of both parties.

BTW disgust with politics doesn’t mean I lack Faith In America, they aren’t the same

  15. MARIOpronoucedMA-RJO on

Young Voters: Doesn’t participate, doesn’t vote in primaries, doesn’t vote in local elections.

Also young voters: The system doesn’t work, these candidates suck.

  16. Putin’s [2016 influence campaign](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_interference_in_the_2016_United_States_elections) succeeded spectacularly, and we are still dealing with the fallout. To this day, people still repeat smears from that era about Hillary Clinton and the terrible “corrupt DNC.”

The propaganda and disinformation on this site was unbelievable and shameless. Literal Russian state propaganda outlets like RT and Sputnik News were constantly being upvoted to the top of r/politics, and that’s even before talking about the conservative and Trump subs, and other platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

  17. negativepositiv on

Gee, why would Gen Z have negative views of both parties when they have a choice between the Openly Fascist Party and the Controlled Opposition Do Nothing Party?

  18. Ok_Cucumber_7954 on

Just GenZ. Pretty sure many GenX and Millennials are also losing faith in this train wreck.

  19. To be fair, anyone paying attention shouldnt be putting faith in the establishment dems. They keep folding under pressure.

And to be clear, they are still waay better than republicans but we need to primary most of the party. Vote blue no matter who has resulted in some useless representatives.

  20. As a Millennial who quites dislike both parties for VERY different reasons (one has a rather large number of murderous pedo enabling racists, the other…just…lets them)…I get it.

  21. vancouverkicker on

Cause both parties are sucking a big one on representing the people and what they want, or getting anything actually accomplished for the people.

  22. They get to look forward to oligarchs running all elections. AI taking away jobs polluted air and water. Politicians that only fight for themselves the wealthy or big corporations while they pay taxes for no representation. Rampant corruption in our government they just have so much to look forward to.

  23. Dems and GOP serve the same moneyed interest. Until dems realize they need FDR type of government, or the GOP realize they need an Eisenhower type of government, no one will have faith in this corporate shill government.

  24. Slow_Cricket_6685 on

I don’t think anyone believes in America any more. That’s what happens when you turn everything a nihilistic contest to see who can be the most depraved piece of shit to ever live. Womp womp.

  25. unstoppable_zombie on

I’m gen x, watching 60-80m people vote for trump 3 times made me lose faith in the concept of human senntience. Watching how congess, the judiciary, state governments, corporations, and his rank and file supporters have acted since the election have made me realize humanity sucks way more than I ever thought and that the American ‘right’ is the bottom of the barrel. Yea little faith left

  26. FlaviusVespasian on

Im convinced we need to burn down the institutional foundation of the Democratic Party and start over with young fresh blood. Focus on long term living standard improvements, liberty, and recreating the new deal—creating an investment in the future of our country, instead of picking off its corpse. The future is Socialist.

  27. In this day and age, how can you not?

Some Dems filmed a TikTok about not committing war crimes. That’s all I can think of in recent weeks.

I thought we ended the shut down to release the files?

Did they really end it cuz their airline buddies told them not to keep going?

What was it for? Did those elections mean anything?

  28. I was a Republican during Reagan. Then I realized his policies (trickle down) were a lie. Became a Democrat and largely a fan of the way Clinton ran the Government. But began to see the Republicans wanted to seize power at any cost—but not really fix anything. In time I saw Democrats try to help the little guy but the “US vs THEM” mentality get magnified. More partisan. Then I realized (especially after Citizens United) that it didn’t matter what side you were on because both were beholden to SuperPacs and Corporate doners. That the divide between working class American and the ultra-wealthy was growing. Because the Billionaires began stacking the deck against the voice of working Americans. And both sides and the Supreme Court were all compromised by the money in politics. Until we can get the Corporate money out of campaign finance, average Americans will be the cattle and the Oligarchs will be the ranchers. Ours will only be to serve them and when we’re no longer useful, discarded. We are all (Right, Left, Middle) kept fighting over issues that don’t matter while they carve up the Country and hide the true wealth and power for themselves.

  29. Mr “affordability is a hoax”

    Vs.

The Democrats fighting tooth and nail against Zohran, the affordability candidate.

We need real alternatives to fascism and neoliberalism.

    Wake the fuck up, dems

  30. Both parties suck (boomer here) but a difference is MAGA is actively trying to wreck the US, whereas the democrats flail about talking about doing the right things but never the hard stuff. Root cause to both is elected officials are completely owned by the Epstein class
