    TLDR:

    * Halle Berry took an unexpected opportunity to criticize California Gov. Gavin Newsom at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit on Wednesday, after he vetoed a bill supporting medical care for menopausal women two years in a row. The law has been backed by Berry and would have made it easier for women to receive medical treatments to address the effects of menopause, per Politico Pro.
    * Berry said of Newsom, “Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one, but two years in a row.”
    * “But that’s okay, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and with the way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either,” she continued, drawing an audible reaction from the crowd. “Just saying.”

  2. It would feel a lot less self-serving if she was criticizing Newsome for vetoing a bill that her own company didn’t benefit from.

I know she’s an out of touch celebrity so this shouldn’t be a surprise, but calling a disagreement on a technical implementation of a bill “devaluing women” as if he’s somehow against the overall premise of the bill itself, is just wild to me. But I guess critical thinking isn’t popular anymore. Oh, and Halle and her company personally benefits from the bill, so there’s that.

Halle Berry took the opportunity to lobby for her company’s product by bashing the Governor for not enriching her with tax dollars

    >The Catwoman actress then took aim at Newsom, 58, during her…

So the defining role to use to identify her is the 2004 Razzie-winning Catwoman film?

    That’s gotta cut

I don’t care about Halle Berry’s company. I care about Newsome’s policies. Does he support Medicare for all? Does he support a living minimum wage? Does he support affordable housing as a human right? Does he support Supreme Court reform? Democrats need to reject neoliberalism completely. They need to reject market solutions where the market has failed (healthcare, housing)

She believes in Scientology, so I’ll always have trouble rationalizing anything that comes out of her mouth.

So I guess that did not help her health company as she hoped it would. She has a financial interest in selling whatever this was going to pay for.

  9. She hasn’t said one word about Trump, ICE or anything this administration has done but has time to talk about Gavin Newsom and the 2028 presidential election? Did he rise her taxes or something?

  10. And this is why Democrats will never manage to be united in the way the GOP is. Too many Democrat voters require that their candidates match every single one of their personal wants in order to vote for them. When that Democrat doesn’t match their views 100%, they attack them publicly and then stay home on election day.

The GOP, on the flipside, tends to vote for the candidate that covers at least a single one of their key asks. If they don’t match 100%, they still rally behind the candidate that fits their beliefs the most. Then on election day, THEY SHOW UP.

  11. Democrats always criticize other democrats makes them look bad. Rather have Newsom versus anything red…thanks Halle….Halle going to be the next Clooney debacle

  12. Now is the time to trash talk Democrats that you don’t want to win the nomination. Get it all out now. And then shut the fuck up in 2028.

  13. if she changed the words in their bill to be *diagnosed by a doctor* it would probably pass

the way it’s been worded gives her organization & individuals the greenlight to diagnose people themselves

Pretty bad-faith argument coming from someone who stands to profit from this bill passing.

  15. Looks like Berry is a single-subject advocate and is attempting to shame Newsom for not bowing to her will, sensationalizing his veto of a wide-reaching bill as evidence of misogyny.

  16. So a celebrity takes the time to bad mouth someone in public because she didn’t get her way? If she really gave a shit she probably has enough sway to set a meeting to speak with Newsome if it’s really that important.

Spineless behavior like this is becoming the norm. Not the right place or time to do this and it doesn’t resolved the issue. Plus I don’t think she’s even in comprehension of the whole bill based on what the OP posted in the comments.

She can drink a big glass of fuck off. Catwoman was also awful!

  17. And that’s how you literally end your speaking career. No one is going to want to risk being embarrassed in front of a crowd. So you’ll just not be invited ever again.

  18. Gavin needs to address his corporate ties with CA big business and how he let PG&E off the hook for ALOT of stuff

As a perimenopausal woman, this is dumb. This is like democrats throwing away the election because we focused on issues that impact 1% of the population, aka trans people. You can’t elect a perfect person because there are none. You have to weigh what matters. So Halle is saying she’d rather have Trump Jr in office than Newsom? I’m just as impacted as she is and I’m not gonna be dumb like the past democrats who didn’t vote for Harris because of Gaza cuz look where we are now.

Right, like the 3 times married and divorced Ms Berry makes smart decisions. Absolutely she’s my goto for information. NOT!

And once again, the left tearing each other apart over trivial issues, forever infighting – while the right united around Trump for 10 years straight and didn’t cave until literal PDFfiles were mentioned.

I love holding my leaders accountable. But a high power celebrity tearing down one of the main opposition candidates for next election? Over her own personal goals? I hate to see it.

  22. Everyone thank Joe Lieberman for killing Medicare for All. The Billionaires have made record profits off the collective suffering of the sick and infirmed and they never could have done it without Fmr Senator Lieberman. 👏🏻
