Because America has a lot of closet racists. This time, his hate hits the people that middle class white America is secretly scared of.

  2. MAGA is a big ball of toxic misfits held together by the glue of “Hurt the people I’m afraid of”.

Trump knows what his base wants.

  3. Because his base loves it.

It validates them, emboldens them, and hurts the people they hate.

  4. He pays a political price for NOT being racist.

Look at the pushback he got over the H-1B visas when he said we need foreigners to fill jobs Americans aren’t qualified for.

They also hated his stance on Chinese University students.

  5. > Why Doesn’t Trump Pay a Political Price for His Racism?

It’s because we deregulated media in the 1990s and now all of the major media outlets in the US are owned or controlled by right wing fascism supporters.

Right-wing propaganda took a massive upswing in the 1980s as a response to Nixon being forced to resign. The creation of the propaganda machine was greatly aided by media consolidation following the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

We used to have hundreds of TV stations and radio stations owned by different people, so they had different view points and priorities.

Now, all of those stations have been consolidated into a handful of companies which are owned or controlled by right wing fascism supporters.

People who get their news from broadcast TV are regularly served heaping doses of right wing propaganda. Instead of many view points and many opportunities for exposing lies being pushed as propaganda, [we have manufactured opinions through mass repetition](https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/04/02/598794433/video-reveals-power-of-sinclair-as-local-news-anchors-recite-script-in-unison) and [managed opposition that used to claim to support democracy](https://www.reddit.com/r/ABoringDystopia/comments/1i2uvet/the_washington_post_kills_off_its_democracy_dies/).

  6. Because Maga is a christian white nationalist cult. His supporters, his admin, his enablers and his sycophants are all racist trash. They’re the modern day klan.

Or his misogyny? Guess some people feel safe having a grifting, criminal, rapist asshole in charge. He gets to manifest their darker impulses and they can exist in plausible deniability that they only voted for him for economic reasons. It isn’t just the racism, it is the exploitation and subordination of people in general. The hierarchy is really built into their world view. The racism and misogyny is a feature, not a bug.

  8. Because his base are racist as well they believe that the white man is superior to people of color and women it’s very sad and pathetic

  9. WhyaintweatDorsia on

It’s always been about racism/sexism. The GOP platform has nothing more to offer than weaponized fear. It works like a charm because you have propaganda factories like Fox News and Russian bot farms peddling this nonsense 24/7.

  10. Voters didn’t hold him accountable for it in 2016 or 2024. His own party loves it because they’re all racist as well. And he’s gotten filthy rich off of being racist, so why stop now?

  11. Good_Entertainer9383 on

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. He is in power because of how racist he is,  not in spite of how racist he is

  12. It’s obvious with his base, but with everyone else all of the subtle/covert/internalized racism in our culture means most people just accept that as “disagreeable” instead of vehemently rejecting it, if they even recognize it as racism in the first place.

  13. basketballsteven on

He doesn’t pay a price because neither his party or his party’s voter care about or or concerned with his racism.

The question as it is posed here seems to imply that OP is unaware that at the Republican convention they were waving signs that said mass deportation and that is totally about deporting non white people and making America white again.

  14. Throwupmyhands on

Because the Press gives in to conservative whining when they say “it’s not racist.” Even the dependable Reuters wrote the other day, when Trump was explicitly racist against Somalis, that he made “racial” comments. GMAFB. It’s not biased to call racism *racism*.

  15. Educational-Ad-2884 on

Because he’s a Republican. These people are devoid of shame and allergic to accountability.

  16. Dude can rape, pillage, and lie about everything and still be the head of the GOP. Do you think a little racism will hurt him? Come on, man.

  17. How can an article like this be written today?

BECAUSE HIS WHOLE POLITICAL IDENTIFY AND SUCCESS IS BUILT ON SUPPORTING RACISTS AND RACISM, AND ABOUT 40% OF THE COUNTRY IS VEHEMENTLY RACIST (WHERE THEIR RACISMS IS THEIR #1 or #2 MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE).

  18. BardicWarrioress on

    oh! oh! oh! I know!

It’s because the United States is a racist, xenphobic, misogynistic, transphobic shithole and always has been

  19. Because it earns him votes with his base. It just turns out 30-50% of Americans are massive racists.

  20. Because he is appealing to the lowest denomination of the voters.
Turns out they are him and he is them

  21. Racism has ALWAYS been a part of American conservative movement, since before Civil War.

Trump is the facade that gives them a greater voice compared to “oppression” they have had especially with Obama’s election. The string pullers are deep into racism, and evidence is in the billionaires that support the cause.

  22. His base is either racist or it’s not a deal breaker for them because they’re white and it doesn’t affect them

  23. America was built upon racism, for the benefit of white immigrantion and their descendants.

Declaration of Independence talks about “merciless indian savages” and it wasn’t even until 1978 (American Indian Freedom of Religion Act) that American Indians could practice their religion openly and freely

  24. RevolutionaryPin935 on

Because your country has always had racism at the core of its foundation. Uncomfortable truth, to put it charitably

  25. During the election, there was a debate about Haitian immigrants in Alabama, where I live. People here in the AL subreddit were commenting that Haitian immigrants can’t be trusted to be around families because of the violence in their homeland. I pointed out the massive amount of gun violence committed by white American men (I.e., Jan 6th) and that must make all white American men dangerous to be around. The reaction is as you would imagine.

  26. Quiet_Property2460 on

Man, his racism isn’t even the top 10 things diaqualifying him from any public office. Why doesn’t Trump pay a political price for being incompetent? Why doesn’t he pay a price for being an idiot? Why doesn’t he pay a price for being a crook, or lying constantly, or falling asleep in meetings, or being unable to form coherent sentence or answer a damned question, or dishonoring veterans, or launching a coup?

Sane people will never be unable to understand the appeal. Don’t rack your brains about it. Half of Americans love him no matter what.
