  1. When this era’s history books are written, no one will be able to argue that Britain and its allies in Europe were not warned. It has been clear for two decades that Russia under [Vladimir Putin is intent on expanding borders](https://inews.co.uk/news/why-putin-needs-spies-uk-how-fail-without-4089144?ico=in-line_link), subverting democracy on our continent and beyond to achieve its aims.

The alarm was raised repeatedly by nations that escaped Moscow’s repression. Yet even the invasions of Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine in 2014 failed to jolt the West from complacency as our political and corporate leaders kowtowed to the despot in the Kremlin, sucked on the teat of his oil and gas, brushed aside his atrocities and laundered cash stolen by his pals.

Last week saw another [sorry chapter in this sordid saga](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/all-ways-russia-waging-grey-war-4089156?ico=in-line_link). A public inquiry confirmed an obvious fact: Putin targeted a former Russian spy and his daughter in Salisbury with a military-grade nerve agent, killing a British woman in an attack that could have led to more deaths. It was horribly reminiscent of the killing almost two decades ago in London of another ex-spy, Alexander Litvinenko.

Meanwhile, Putin pushed back on another sellout peace plan from the White House while his troops grind forward [in the battlefields of Ukraine ](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/what-attacks-tells-putins-ceasefire-tactics-4087310?ico=in-line_link)– then made another of his wearily familiar threats about potential war with Europe.

I am writing this in Kyiv, where Putin’s assault on freedom – aided by his autocratic allies – could not be clearer. Yet Russia is engaged also in a wider covert war on our continent: hiring criminals for sabotage, crippling firms with cyber attacks, cutting undersea cables, sending drones to test defences, spreading disinformation and fuelling division to corrupt democracies. There are open calls in his state media for the assassination of European leaders.

It is now beyond doubt, however, that this ghastly regime is being assisted by the White House in its efforts to destroy Ukraine – and that the United States has declared war on Europe under its appalling President.

A new [US National Security Strategy](https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2025-National-Security-Strategy.pdf) sets this out in stark terms. It is a depressing document, which codifies the extremism, racism and venality of Donald Trump’s approach to Europe while claiming his culture wars as a strand of Washington’s security policy.

It is the sequel to [his Vice President’s disgraceful](https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/vance-and-trump-in-outrageous-and-appalling-bid-to-subvert-eu-democracy-3735547?srsltid=AfmBOop_2Dvfl3RYLZgosvGrInGrNA55QoMdHn_mKkB17kz0kgAD9LhP&ico=in-line_link) February speech at the Munich Security Conference, which downplayed Russia’s threat while lashing out at the supposed suppression of free speech and exclusion of far-right forces.

It shows this is the guiding principle of US foreign policy – which means Europe has adversaries on both flanks seeking to corrode our societies and inflame malignant nationalism.

This US strategy is hypocritical and offensive – from support for Russia’s stance of opposing Nato enlargement and blaming “undemocratic” European governments for sustaining war in Ukraine, through to its disturbing echo of gross far-right claims on demographics and migration.

  2. Notice how no one is freaking out? Luckily everyone on Earth with half a brain knows Trump is full of shit, completely incompetent and a world class moron.

Is this rage baiting for clicks? Trump is a Russian shill but tone down the inflammatory hyperbole.

In the same sense, Russia has been actively working to destabilize the American democracy for years through misinformation, manipulation of public opinion through social media and election interference. The Trump regime, through his arrogance, is simply being transparent about their goal of exporting MAGA to Europe and promoting the rise of alt-right parties.

Modern warfare no longer embraces military invasion as there are easier ways to destabilize and change an enemy nation. In this sense, Trump is not looking at a military conquest of Europe, but a franchise approach for MAGA. Just insert your country name and throw some money to corporate!

The fuck did we do to deserve this? We are civilisational allies. Could the U.S political elite finally own the blame for their domestic chaos and not project everything outward for once please?

  6. Stereo_Jungle_Child on

    Holy hyperbole, Batman!

    Trump abandoning Europe? Yes.

Trump “declaring war on Europe”? No.

  7. This is the meaure of Putin’s success. The West sees his war with Ukraine as a failure, but in reality in the last decade Putin has weakened the EU (including through Brexit) and finally broken NATO (at least to the extent that America’s commitment to article 5 can no longer be taken seriously), and that has to be seen by Moscow as not just a success, but a triumph.

  8. Please ban this type of hyperbolic rhetoric in post titles. Or just articles that use it. They’re junk. It’s disingenuous and over the long term dangerous. There’s been far too much of it lately.

    “make no mistake”

has he? because it seems like this is clickbait. Are we sending troops to Europe? Is Europe preparing a preemptive strike on us?

  10. This white supremacist, fascist, Neo-Nazi Christian Nationalist movement has declared they are intent on spreading this Neo-Nazi fascism to Europe.

  11. JoostvanderLeij on

Trump doesn’t like rules. EU makes powerful rules that many companies follow voluntarily. Trump doesn’t like that.

  12. You believe America soldiers will follow to Europe!! That they will do battle with Europeans whilst taking cover behind American Soldier’s headstone in France and elsewhere? I don’t believe that.

  13. Is the ego of one man worth destroying the world’s strongest alliance? The average age of American politicians suggests that most of them must remember when the USA used article 5 after 9/11

They all act as if he’s unstoppable while they see him destroy everything they built in their average 73 year career.

  14. MyClosetedBiAcct on

Please, as an American, please don’t do performative international politics and just go for it. Just do it. Please. Someone, anyone out there, accept his posturing as real and just do it, you know what we want.

  15. Can we just stop fucking going to war with shit for like a GODDAMN second? Fuck you trump.

  16. QuirkyWish3081 on

I really hope America gets their shit together and not allow this to happen again. I think it’s too late now so you have to ride the storm and hope GOP do not turn you into a dictatorship

Democracies in Europe should call for Regime change in the US. Start calling Trump putins bitch.

  18. When are you guys in the US going to sort your king out? He is literally crafting the third world war in his orange little hands.

  19. Bring it on orange shitgibbon, we can start by kicking all the yanks from airbases in this country and in Cyprus

  20. So, I guess as a European, our natural reaction should be to embrace China and look East.

  21. As if the US public cares. If I have learned one thing about the USA in the past years it’s that even a small economic growth will make them throw everyone under the bus. They have elected an openly racist president who attacked allies and sold out democracy for despots. The next government will not turn this around. It’s deeply unsettling and frustrating.

  22. We need United States of Europe NOW. United we stand, divided we become vassals of Russia and the MAGA empire. Or worse.

  23. Make no mistake, America lost the Cold War thanks to Trump and now it’s just doing what Russia tells it to do

  24. Dumpsters a despot. Him, the Administration and his sycophants have lost any sense responsibility and are out to wreck the economy, but not before stripping it of its wealth for their own benefit….and…..get this…..

    ….they don’t give a fuck.

  25. Alright Donald, how’s this. You surrender and give us everything we want, or we demolish your golf course in Aberdeenshire.
