  1. Full article: SEATTLE – There was a time when [Donald Trump](https://inews.co.uk/topic/donald-trump?ico=in-line_link) at least made a show of trying to disguise the more virulent views that appeared to pulse through his veins.

There would be the dog whistles to supporters, such as the insistence of [using Barack “Hussein” Obama’s full name](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/harris-campaign-goading-trump-taunts-chicken-noises-3247266?ico=in-line_link) every time he referred to his predecessor, or his description of invariably Black or female politicians he did not like as being of “low IQ”.

That pretence has now gone. Having been re-elected on a tough-on-immigration platform, Trump feels able to say whatever he wants. Last week, the 79-year-old President [described immigrants from Somalia as “garbage”](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/19-third-world-countries-trump-blocked-migration-what-means-4073242?ico=in-line_link) while Vice President [JD Vance](https://inews.co.uk/topic/jd-vance?srsltid=AfmBOoo2OSRTVNRBRS0Poo9UumY3r-vUGTxZOEapipnsRXx9yHNWoAT4&ico=in-line_link) and other cabinet members thumped the table in support.

Having enacted among the [toughest ever series of immigration policies](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/19-third-world-countries-trump-blocked-migration-what-means-4073242?srsltid=AfmBOorV_21ZEzoblMaALwvhBHZ0mkxZn6ospxT8MARoiVSU8jnUb46q&ico=in-line_link), Trump is squeezing things ever tighter, announcing a [travel ban late last month](https://inews.co.uk/opinion/trumps-cruelty-too-far-america-will-punish-him-4063900?ico=in-line_link) for citizens of 19 countries following the shooting of two

National Guard members in Washington, DC. The [suspected](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/two-national-guard-officers-shot-washington-dc-4069709?ico=in-line_link) gunman was an Afghan man who came to the US in 2021 under a Joe Biden-era resettlement programme.

Trump is now turning the pressure up further – with the announcement that visitors to the US, from countries including Britain, will be required to provide their social media history from the past five years.

This will be “mandatory” for tourists and other arrivals, even if they have a visa, and will be part of the application for an Esta (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation), according to the notice published on Tuesday by Customs and Border Protection.

Trump’s State Department also sent out a memo last week to staff telling them to check visa applicants for anyone who has been involved in “fact-checking” or activities including content moderation and online safety.

The rules were sent out by Secretary of State [Marco Rubio](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/britain-should-brace-trumps-top-aide-pick-america-first-future-3483160?ico=in-line_link), who has claimed individuals applying for [H-1B visas](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/bomb-blow-up-musk-trump-3936509?ico=in-line_link), which apply to skilled workers often in fields like medicine and technology, could have been “responsible or complicit in the censorship of Americans”.

1984 called, they want their dystopia back. But seriously, checking tourists’ memes before letting them in? Big yikes, what’s next? 🤡

    This is absolutely crazy.

Republicans ban books, censor, sue and consolidate media, monitor your social feeds, and all the while Republicans claim to care about “free speech.”

  4. After pondering this carefully, and as a very regular visitor to the US for 50 years, my considered opinion is “Fuck off”.

I will never enter the US again.

  5. Not that I was going to the USA at any point in the future, but I have a screen shot on my phone of DT complaining on twitter (as it was back then) about how there was no women or black people signing the Declaration of Independence “very unpatriotic”

  6. Redshirt_Welshy_Nooo on

Fascist Republicans really digging in on their war against freedom, truth, and reality.

  7. Nobody wants to come to this shit hole anymore anyway, so the Trump admin can go fuck itself into a black hole of hate and destitution.

I know someone who’s family is celebrating Christmas in the US this year due to uncertainties. This will make things even more uncertain.

I think that, in due time, Americans might find their own freedom of movement limited by policies, such as with Cuba.

  9. Well, guess my brother and sister-in-law won’t be coming to the US anymore.

Fuck this administration and any dipshit that voted for it.

Delete and crash social media and make Zuckerberg penniless. I’m in favor of that!

  11. Republicans are actually defending this now. They have zero morals. They’ll do whatever their diaper daddy tells them to.

Does this apply to Canadians too? Please tell me it does. So many more people will stop going to that shithole, it’s going to be awesome.

  13. This has to be the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen from these guys.

Monitor 5 years of social media. Okay. Maybe they are looking for threats or terrorism type stuff. That’s lame but I guess I can see how that makes sense to them.

No…they are looking for people that are or have been involved in FACT CHECKING!

What a group of pathetic clowns.

“You have the right to free speech, so long as you’re not dumb enough to actually try it”…..The Clash

For your tourism consideration, might I suggest: Canada? Mexico? Literally any other country?

If the Trump-Miller regime now finds literal Anglos undesirable as tourists, it’s pretty full on that they are intent on pursuing total isolation. Good luck with that.

Also Rubio’s such a little pissant dweeb.

Also I suppose it’s only a matter of time before Reddit kowtows and kicks the rest of us out so it can serve as yet another silo for Americans.

  16. National headlines in the near future:  “*Tourism in US is at Historic Lows*”

TFG:  “*Stop asking me about tourism, piggy!  It’s a Democrat hoax!*”

I mean this doesn’t even serve a purpose. It’s just stupid and destructive. I am so fucking tired.

  18. To any foreign travelers considering visiting our country: please don’t.

It’s clear that only money and Donald Trump’s ego are the only things that matter to those in power. Not visiting our country accomplishes both.

  19. wolfherdtreznor on

Even more reason never to go back down there. I can’t wait to see how this all unveils during the world cup.

  20. A reminder to everyone that in no way should you ever hand your fucking social media history to any fucking country.

    Fuck the USA.

  21. Here’s an idea: how about the rest of the world also forces American tourists to declare 5 years worth of their social media accounts when they travel and if they are a registered Republican or have anything to do with MAGA then they get denied entry?

You watch how fast they start bleating about their “freedom of speech” if you try it …

  22. Please don’t travel here from outside the US until normal people can recover control of our government…. We fear for your safety

    -Normal US citizen
