  1. Of course they did, it’s what they do. Democrats should demand their money back and vote against her.

  2. I think a recurring problem with this administration, and possibly politicians in general, is the shocking number of people who seem psychologically incapable of feeling shame or emotional attachment.

  3. This is a trend that’s being funded by billionaires at the top. Similar instances have happened in Florida, New Jersey, and North Carolina off the top of my head.

  4. Can we just get money out of politics? No one is allowed to get monetary donations, gifts, or get people to pay salaries to help with their campaign. All people that help with the campaign must be volunteers. Each candidate gets a standard amount of money to run ads and travel, and that’s it. And zero trading allowed while in a political position or you’re immediately impeached. I’m so tired of our country being ran on money for everything. It was only a matter of time until capitalism unchecked led to oligarchy. We need politicians that actually want to serve the people not themselves.

  5. So many of these problems would go away if Americans had 100% taxpayer funded elections.

Any politician soliciting or accepting money goes to prison. (Fines mean nothing to the rich. Prison.)

Any person or company (company officer) offering or paying anything to a politician for anything, straight to prison.

  6. This shit should be illegal. People donated thinking that this person was running as a democrat. They would not have donated if they knew it was going to a republican.

  7. So Texas effectively deceived so that an expected 2 party system election was really just Republican vs Republican?

  8. There needs to be a rule where if u either run as a D or R and then change after getting elected they should be removed from office immediately

  9. Swapping parties should be made to trigger an immediate election within 90 days for the remainder of the term.

  10. Mayor of Dallas did the same thing, told everyone he was a Democrat and fundraised off that, then after taking office he switched parties. Even though the mayor’s office is supposed to be non-partisan he still effectively stole money who would have never donated to a Republican. He’s also been trying to get Dallas police to get involved with ICE roundups, something local officers really don’t have any interest in being a part of since joining ICE would be very counterproductive from a community policing POV.

I would have voted for this person as a Democrat, and if there were no Democrats running I would have left the ballot empty, but now I’m going to vote for whoever is running against her even if that person is a Republican.

  11. I’ve been waiting my whole life for a Democrat to do this. Run as a fake Republican and then flip.

  12. ilulillirillion on

We may step forward or back, but we will never escape this moment until we take the money out of politics again.

  13. These people are just so cartoonishly and shamelessly evil and feel completely justified to be. You really can’t do much to reason with people like this. How far they’re willing to go to obtain power. Just evil people. And as said by others, she isn’t the first. The North Carolina case brought up was a big one since that turned the state legislature into a GOP super majority.

  14. This is part of the reason why we need to put a cap on campaign expenditures at all levels. Then organizations like Act Blue wouldn’t even be necessary.

My proposal is that campaign expenditures are capped at $1 for every citizen in your district/city/county/state/country at the last census. You can’t spend more than that and neither can your opponents.

And PACs can spend as much as they want, but they cannot name or depict any candidate in any way. They can only talk about issues, and they have to include disclaimers like drug commercials.

Now, I’m not sure how you would break this down for the Railroad Commission of Texas, but maybe it doesn’t matter: why would you spend $29 million on a campaign to become railroad commissioner, and who would donate it to you anyway?

  15. Changing parties after being elected to office should be prohibited on every level to prevent this kind of fuckery. We’ve got enough bullshit messaging to deal with, we shouldn’t have to tolerate this crap.
