It is one of my greatest sources of disappointment that 7 in 10 Americans either wanted this or didn’t care enough to stop it.

Destroying is infinitely easier that rebuilding, and Trump has been very successful at destroying so much, so quickly. If Americans were dissatisfied with the government’s ability to function before Trump, they are going to be mortified to witness what comes next.

  3. The Political Horse will never be put back in the barn. Gloves are off. Money and manipulation rule. “The Greatest Nation” without it’s citizens having any sense of ethics is just another bunch of power drunk, avaricious scum bags. Thanks Trump; welcome to the Future (and you’re still going to die no matter how desperate you are.)

  4. Flare is wrong, article is paywalled. Which is a shame, because it looked to be interesting. But yeah, I think most of this damage is functionally permanent. In the fullness of time, this presidency will likely be viewed as the final tipping point to the US losing its place as the global hegemon, the final decisive point beyond which the end of the US empire (as it existed before) was inevitable.

A quote that I think perfectly encapsulates why comes from a French foreign minister a few months ago: “We cannot leave the security of Europe in the hands of Wisconsin voters every four years.” We’ve shattered trust that has been built up over literally a hundred+ years. When Europe makes decisions, treaties, and deals moving forward, the US will have to pay a tax for the price of the uncertainty that we represent. Metaphorically speaking, Trump took the US’s credit score from 850 to 400. Because we’ve shown that we’re never more than one swing election away from breaking our deals and exploiting our closest allies.

The long term economic harm caused by this dipshit is probably best measured in 10’s of trillions of dollars.

🇨🇦 I think it’s crazy that y’all forgot how you became so wealthy and powerful. The American Empire was a trading empire built on a system of trading alliances and strategic partnerships.

Now, the USA has decided to trash all their trading partnerships and become a threatening adversary to their allies.

Here in Canada, we are preparing for the inevitable: USA exits the CUSMA trade agreement. Now, what if I told you that this is a nation of people who are preparing to take up arms against the eventual invasion.

There may come a day when the USA wants to negotiate a new trade agreement. I cannot imagine Canadians being willing… for a long time.

The question isn’t how many years but how many generations…. And I don’t think the answer will be 1 or 2.

  6. Stop blaming Trump. This is the fault of Republicans in congress and SCOTUS. They are enabling this by not even attempting to stop things because this is what they want. Blaming Trump will allow the same actors to continue the work even after Trump is gone.

What America needs as its next President to even have a chance of recovering from Trump is a Washington, Lincoln or FDR

Unfortunately what we are going to get is an establishment democrat who will spend 4 years explaining why they cant do anything and expecting praise for how reasonable they are that when the Republicans introduced a bill making it illegal be brown, they got Republicans to agree to only make that illegal on weekdays, every other Saturday and the first Sunday of every month.
