It’s heartbreaking to even think about Sandy Hook all these years later. I get why people want action, but it also feels like the same arguments just get recycled without real answers. Everyone agrees it shouldn’t happen again — the hard part is how to actually get there.

Remembering yesterday’s terror attack in Australia at Bondi Beach, the assailants used shotguns because access to high powered assault rifles and other antipersonnel weapons is heavily, heavily constrained in Australia.
If the terrorists had access to US style assault weapons as sold in gun shops and supermarkets in the USA, the death toll would have been three times higher or more.

The gun issue is a losing one, and most of the things that are universally popular are already on the books.
The cat is out of the bag when it comes to guns in the US, and trying to take them away right now is just really stupid both politically and strategically.

What “reform”? What should be outlawed? Because if you say an AR15, the majority of people don’t support that. If you say semi automatic pistols, most people don’t support that. Background checks? Sure. 100%. Anything else? Maybe 10 day waiting period? Sure. Ok. But there is nothing else on the table to talk about.
