President Donald Trump has doubled down on his heartless response to the murder of Rob Reiner, insisting that the slain director was “deranged” and “bad for our country.”
Despite the backlash Trump faced on Monday for suggesting that Reiner’s death was due to the “anger he caused others” by being critical of the president, Trump refused to back away from the controversial comments when asked about them in the Oval Office.
“Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned,” he said on Thursday afternoon.
Trump is a sociopath, and/or a narcissist. (Probably closer to being a narcissist, because those two things are quite similar).

If Reiner really were deranged, then his criticism of Trump wouldn’t be evidence of malice or conspiracy. it would be evidence of error, confusion, or illness. And if it’s error, the proper response isn’t outrage or retaliation, it’s dismissal or even pity. You don’t take moral offense at a malfunctioning compass.
By insisting Reiner is both crazy and culpably hostile, Trump tries to have it both ways and that collapses the argument. You can’t treat someone as irrational while simultaneously holding them morally responsible for a calculated attack. Pick one.
