He’s not putting us on the path. We’ve been on it since his first term when he handed out secrets like bank transfers to epstein

  2. An entire generation who fought WWII and truly came into their primes years following the blinding flash of the atomic had the good sense to avoid a repeat of either flavor of human calamities with their efforts and worldview.

Cleverness and moral clarity, bounded reasonably enough by a profound sense of ethics, is a requirement to continue their legacy. People absent even a trace of that understanding or appreciation will lead others down the primrose path to poor outcomes.

  3. Tariffs often lead to conflict. When there is no interdependence between nations there is less to lose when pushing the envelope of acceptable behavior. And, it’s not always just a bi-lateral relationship either.

Take, this example. You have three countries, A and B are big suppliers of a widget while country C C is a big consumer of the widget. A & B tariff one another so that they are not competing in each others markets. But country C allows them to both compete in their market. Since A & B have no interdependence they will use whatever leverage they have to convince C not to buy the other’s widget. But, for C they get the best value having both countries compete in their market.

So, what tends to happen is that if A & B are of similar size they will fight a proxy war in C. Or, if A or B are of dissimilar size one may directly attack the other.

Without the interdependence that free trade provides the incentive to not engage in conflict is greatly reduced.

    >Trump administration has been carrying out [military strikes](https://www.commondreams.org/news/trump-weapon-of-mass-destruction) against purported drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean, and has also been “meddling in the internal politics of [Brazil](https://www.commondreams.org/tag/brazil), Argentina, and [Honduras](https://www.commondreams.org/tag/honduras), issuing scattershot threats against Colombia and Mexico, menacing [Cuba](https://www.commondreams.org/tag/cuba) and Nicaragua, increasing its influence over the Panama Canal, and seizing an [oil](https://www.commondreams.org/tag/oil) tanker off the coast of [Venezuela](https://www.commondreams.org/tag/venezuela).”

Trump being trump is going to get a lot of people killed.

What are these articles do are meant to do? Anyone who has paid attention to this mother fucker since 2016 knows that we were headed this direction. This past election was an open book test and over half the fucking country failed it. They voted for this shit, but those of us who didn’t have to suffer the consequences of our idiot neighbors.

It doesnt matter that hes doing this because no one is going to stop him. It doesnt matter what his poll numbers are because no one is going to stop him. It doesnt matter what laws he breaks because no one is going to stop him.

Im not sure what the answer is, Im just tired and complaining.

Nazi Germany lost WWII because its autocratic leader was an idiot who believed he understood everything better than experts.

At first, the professionalism of the German military, its generals, compensated for the stupidity of Hitler, providing Germany with a string of victories that relied on the unpreparedness of its ennemies.

But later in the war, because of the idiotic decisions made by Hitler, decisions almost entirely based on nothing but his gut feeling and because Hitler, to solidify his power, made sure to have his generals fight each other as much as they fought the enemy, Germany soon started encountering setbacks and defeats, sending Germany into a downwards spiral from which it never recovered.

But to keep his scheme going, Hitler hid true statistics, the true numbers of soldier losses, of enemy advancements, of material losses, telling the military and the German people about victories that did not happen and that everything was happening according to the plan.

And that’s when Hitler switched from military strategy to hoping for a miracle, putting his hope into “Wonder Weapons” and into providence, believing in a sort of “manifest destiny” for the German people.

    **Now think about it…**

Trump claims to know more about nuclear power than any man alive, claims to know more about the economy than anyone and to know more about business than anyone…

Trump hides the American jobs report to hide the true number of unemployment, he hides the inflation report, hides the commercial deficit report… And hides the Epstein files…

And now Trump has hung all of his hopes on the failed policy of tariffs, his “wonder weapon”, believing stupidly that tariffs can replace income tax (they can’t), that tariffs can repay the debt (they can’t) and that tariffs will make America rich, casually forgetting that the tariffs are being paid by the American people.

    **Russia…**

Because it is being led by a dictator who thinks he knows better than anyone else, Russia just cannot win in Ukraine. Putin makes stupid decisions because he thinks he is a genius and then, because he purged the military of any general with a spine, his “yes men” tell Putin what he wants to hear…

Any Putin believes in some sort of “manifest destiny” for the Russian people, a sort of “divine right” to rule over all others.

And Putin hides true soldier losses numbers, hides the true state of the economy and hides pretty much any information disagree with his propaganda.

**Do you guys see some kind of trend here?**

I’m fairly certain that’s his goal so he can insert himself as president for life and dodge every illegal thing he has committed, currently committing and will commit in the future

Numerous foes have been attacking America and Europe severely for a decade. WW3 already started, just slow and quiet. Tech and infrastructure attacks are part of the new asymmetric war. Russia and China are the biggest threats and active hybrid war partners against US and EU.

It’s the ultimate Boomer exit: If I’m going, I’m taking everything with me.

Since he’s clearly on his way out, we have something that he wants and he’s not going to stop until he’s taken lots of it on his way out.

    Guess what’s that thing!

    Life.

World War III started when Russia attacked Crimea in 2014, we just keep pretending we’re not there.

  12. CherryLongjump1989 on

Trump is forcing Europe’s hand. He is setting conditions for European troops to join Ukrainians on the frontline. The alternative is to provide Ukraine with powerful weapons to repel the Russian invasion themselves. But Trump chose to serve as Putin’s puppet, instead.

  13. Honestly, I’m starting to suspect that that’s part of his (or his Administration’s?) master plan – it’s starting to look like Putin, Xi, and Trump have divided the world into their Monroe Doctrine Spheres of Influence. The Administration is willing to abandon our allies in Europe and Asia as long as they can play Imperialist in Latin/South America.

*Edited for grammar – or, not is

  14. Fit_Strength_1187 on

But he said his path of colluding with Putin and Xi to divvy up the world without NATO (wink) is the *only* way to avoid WW3.

  15. Um. Isn’t that his plan, tho? He’s gonna kick it, so why not take a few billion with him?

This isn’t news. We know, we have known since his election, and even before, tour debt is not sustainable, you either go to war and disrupt other economies or devalue your currency to a level that can be absorbed. How is this news?

  18. WW3 is the least of our worries about where Trump wants to take this country. Trumps wants America to be pre 1940 southern mentality .

  19. Slow-Astronaut-2135 on

And we will be allied with China, Russia, and North Korea. We’re literally the bad guys now. What a joke.

  20. Yeah I don’t think we need a Yale scholar to tell us the obvious… Trump will do anything to escape what’s coming to him with those Epstein files… including WW3.

  21. AmelaPandersen on

I’d argue that the hybrid war began ten years ago when Russia hacked DNC and RNC email servers to blackmail legislators. And we are not the only country they’ve done this to. But the world is scared shitless of Russia going nuclear.

(And FYI, we never saw what was in the RNC emails…)

  22. It’s almost like authoritarians start wars! And when they’re in bigger countries, the wars are bigger too!
    Who ever could have imagined!?

  23. You don’t have to be a Yale historian to see this. Every leader that has started a world war, have been fascist narcissists. Trump is both. As is Putin. As is Kim Jong Un. Great recipe there for WW3

  24. MathematicianBig6616 on

Well yes, isn’t that the main point? Nothing like war to make money and depopulate. Save water for data centers. Get rid of a lot of young folks. The perfect strategy for the psychopath traitor and his minions
