Elon Musk: “Haha, no, buddy, you’re an A.I. I made to replace the real Mike Johnson. You aren’t real at all.”
Mike?: (Turning slowly to face Elon with a frozen expression of panic) “What?”
Elon: “Yeah, sorry, but you were inefficient, so I got rid of you! (Looking at Mike? with an unaware expression) What, wasn’t I supposed to do that? It was my job.”
~~Mike~~: “No. No, you weren’t supposed to actually do anything like that. What is wrong with you?! (A panicked face of dawning understanding) Where is my real body?”
Musk: “In Epstein’s cell. Where else would I put you?”

So the government shutdown was ended on the promise of a vote over the extension of ACA subsidies, but Johnson just decided to not honour that commitment because he was afraid that Republicans might vote for it?
costabius on
Only take one member to trigger a vote for his replacement. Cowards are waiting for Greene to do it on the way out the door.

Calling it “political malpractice” feels generous. Nixing a vote on ACA subsidies right before premiums spike is wild.

It always gets me with the Republicans who keep complaining that people won’t “give Trump a chance” or “give Republicans a chance.” They’ve *had* chances, *repeated* chances, *years* of chances. This is Trump’s second term and second chance, and it’s worse than the first one.
Birdman330 on
It’s not malpractice because this is the republican line. The government should still be shutdown because of this, but the Dems are too dumb to see it.

Any republican could call for his removal
A petition could be put up to force a vote, just like with the epstein files
Any republican crying about a lack of vote, is partaking in 100% fake performance outrage.

Time for another discharge petition then.

That was the plan all along. The dems should have kept the government closed.

Johnson saying he cancelled the vote because there was no way to get enough Republicans to not vote yes on extending ACA subsidies, which Republicans promised as part of the shut down to have the vote, is absolutely political malpractice.
Question is, will Republicans bend over for yet another wanna be dictator or actually remove Johnson as speaker and get some traction going before they all take their holiday vacation. If Republicans grew a spine or an ounce of empathy, they could stop Johnson, Hegseth, Bondi, and Trump before they destroy this country.

So I don’t get it. If dozen Republicans and all the Democrats want it that’s majority. Who is he to stand in the way of a majority? He’s speaker, not royalty.

Mike Johnson needs to go back to his podcast bubble and stay away from anything related to governing.

It’s so painfully transparent.
1) Break the ACA
2) Point to the crazy renewal bills and scream “see we told you this whole time it wasn’t going to work”
3) Repeal the ACA
4) Hello, pre-existing condition exclusions

This is my shocked face. Shame no one screamed about this outcome back when the Dems folded on the shutdown. How could we have known?!

They promised it would get addressed to stop the shutdown, with no intent on addressing it.

I work for my state’s Medicaid/Medicare office.
The last 2 days at work have been heartbreaking. It means tax filing, legal immigrants and citizens under a certain threshold are now only eligible for community health centers unless they want to pay over $400 a month even if they have zero income.
They’re trying to make people desperate, hungry, sick, dead, and/or violent. This federal government is sickeningly evil.

The number of people in this thread who must have failed US Government is astounding. The Dems only got a promise of a vote **in the Senate**, not the House too. Johnson basically said he’ll never let it get to a vote in the House, no matter what the Senate did.
It’s horrid and awful, but that’s all the concessions that the Dems got when they reached the compromise.

He is too busy being enamored by Trump to actually get anything done in his position as the speaker
Democrats are such losers.
He went back on his non-binding word? Shocking.
Those “moderates Republicans” could withdraw their support for him as Speaker and get behind a leader who would extend the subsidies. But they won’t.
You mean the guy who monitors his adult son’s porn habits and founded a fraudulent church isn’t the most trustworthy guy?
Interesting.
I guess we’re going back to the pre-ACA nightmare of people dying in the gutter when they can’t get cancer treatment.
Well done, America.
Maybe next time don’t support evil by sitting at home on election day.
I’m sure Schumer will forgive him for enabling his total capitulation.
Turns out, people like to live!
