Snippets from this article and the original article from The Washington Post:

Here’s the unpaywalled “original” article. It’s much too complex to try and copy/paste here: [https://archive.ph/Q8J5L](https://archive.ph/Q8J5L)

    * Citing people familiar with the matter, The Washington Post reported that senior Pentagon officials were looking to downsize some of its military headquarters and shift the balance of power among its top brass.
    * If implemented, the proposal would mean the biggest shake-up of the U.S. military for decades.
    * The proposals also appear to be in keeping with the Trump administration’s strategy to **shift resources from the Middle East and Europe**, and to place more of a focus on the Western Hemisphere, as outlined by the National Security Strategy released earlier this month.
    * Chuck Hagel, who served as defense secretary during the Obama administration and as a Republican member of the Senate before that, **expressed concerns** about the Trump administration’s ambitions. There are different dynamics, needs and security threats throughout the globe, he said.
    * *“The world isn’t getting any less complicated,” Hagel said in an interview. “You want commands that have the capability of heading off problems before they become big problems, and I think you lose some of that when you unify or consolidate too many.”*

  2. Of course, he’s about to launch a large scale occupation of South America to appease the technocrats so needs to make sure there’s only a small handful of sycophants in change. What could go wrong

Meh… It would make the headline a bit long, but it’s more like:
Trump admin will attempt to radically transform military, but because they are know-nothing incompetents, will fall flat on their faces and break a bunch of stuff they don’t understand.

Kind of like the ballroom. That’s the ultimate metaphor for this administration.

  4. Latin American countries that value their sovereignty better get ready to defend themselves from the interventionist Gringos or they will soon have to decide between fealty to the US or becoming the next Venezuela.

I’m sure the plan will be drafted on a series of disordered bar napkins stained by alcohol and otherwise dubious fluids drafted at Hegseth’s favorite strip club. Lovely.

  6. That is why these boats are being blown up not only are they a convenient distraction its also a test to see if the military will obey illegal orders. The preliminary results so far are not encouraging.

I know there are men of conscience in the military. Remember the oath you took was to the country not any specific leader of that country.

Imagine being so wretched that youre trying to emulate the Endwar timeline, but youre so incompetent youre basically willing the antagonist faction of CoD: Ghosts into existence, and that is also the preferable alternative.

  8. Eisenhower warned against the military industrial complex in his 1961 farewell address and it came true. So yes, we pay more and get less. Black programs take decades and have unlimited budget and at the end of that, there’s not a lot to show for it, so yeah something has to change. If we were actually in war with China over Taiwan, we’d exhaust our reserves in a week. Fancy weapons are useful, but you need capacity.

We won WW2 because we had production and oil. Germany and Japan lost because we out produced them in everything by 5-10x and cut off their oil. We can’t produce anymore, so instead of more weapons, how about more production capacity that COULD go to defense if needed?

I just don’t trust the Trump administration to make things cheaper.

  9. These actions are likely in preparation of this president officially proclaiming a war to declare martial law by citing that domestic terrorists who support Venezuela exist all over the U.S. hiding in plain sight. They couldn’t wield the Insurrection Act via other methods, so they’re going with this new plan.

They can then ramp up their ICE and military activities inside U.S. borders. If members of the military start refusing orders, they have large-scale organized white supremacy groups from compounds all over the country just waiting to receive word that they can take up arms. Under martial law and with the Insurrection Act, they can then suspend civil rights, disrupt public communications, proclaim citizens are enemies, set up internment camps, and on and on quickly before anyone has a real organized chance to react and counter their measures. They’re likely doing this now over the holidays because the public becomes naturally disrupted by the busy shopping season, visiting with family, etc.

  10. We need to popularize the idea that those who follow unlawful orders may get away with it for now, but will be charged eventually. If if they’re old men and women, it will haunt them some day.

  11. The US has a long history of success in fighting jungle wars…

Commander Bone Spurs wouldn’t know about that, though.

  12. The only radical thing about the reshaping the military is going to be how it radically it will be fucked up.

It is clear as mountain spring that this administration doesn’t know what the fuck they are doing. They should rename themselves to “lost-in-space”, because they don’t know anything about anything.

I am sorry for every military person who entered the service wanting to serve their country. It must be fucking bitter having to listen to Hegseth, Trump and other idiots strutting around, knowing they don’t have a patriotic bone in their body. When valor is replaced by blind obedience, it is not a military.

  13. Really has to be a Russian asset. Why does the dumbest administration who cannot even get the popular vote think it has a mandate to remake everything into the stupidest version of 1930.

  14. Everyone should read The End of the World Is Just the Beginning: Mapping the Collapse of Globalization by Peter Zeihan. He’s pretty much detailed this exact situation as well as the increased tariffs etc.

The book came out in 2022, and it’s pretty much been spot on with how everything has played out post Covid.

Ew, this 100% reeks of Stephen Miller.

He’s got to have his Latin American genocide and once Trump is gone, no one is going to listen to his shrill little Nosferatu ass anymore, so it’s gotta happen now.
