Democrats should kick the three transphobes who voted for MTG’s bill out of the caucus. Conservatives hate trans people because they show us what freedom and living authentically look like.

Thanks for posting this. Sorry in advance for all the “i’m a moderate centrist and I think trans people should just suffer” replies you’re going to get.

I agree with your sentiment but honestly I think they hate them because it’s seen as an easier barrier to entry when your ultimate goal is suppressing women in general.

>The bill is extreme. It makes it a crime to provide safe and effective health care to trans youth (and only to trans youth! The same procedures for cis youth are exempted in Greene’s bill), punishable with up to 10 years imprisonment. This includes the parents of trans kids, who are only trying to do what’s best for their kids, who happen to be the target of a five-year moral panic that gripped the GOP so that they could get people to stop talking about the failures of the president’s first term and his attempt to overthrow the federal government on January 6, 2021.
>Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Vincente Gonzalez Jr (D-TX), and Don Davis (D-NC) all voted alongside 213 Republicans yesterday to pass Greene’s anti-trans bill. If they had not voted for it, it would not have passed.
>All the major medical professional organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, and the American Medical Association support gender-affirming care as the standard of care, but people like Greene will still tell people to “do your own research” if they bring up the fact that real researchers who spend their lives studying the subject support gender-affirming care.
>And what kind of research is someone with no background in science supposed to do from their home? At best, the research they’ll do will be orders of magnitude less rigorous than what those scientific bodies already did, and they probably won’t even do that. Instead, what right-wingers mean when they say “do your own research” is “watch this YouTube video made by someone who knows nothing” or “share this garbage Facebook meme.” That’s how little these people know about what real scientific research looks like.
Gender-affirming care saves lives. Christian nationalists hate trans people, and they advocate for them to die. That’s what all this is about.
It was never about bathrooms or sports. Nope. Christian nationalists were always about trying to kill off trans people— either by bullying trans people into killing themselves or by state-sponsored murder.

Are they representing their constituents?
It’s a genuine question.
And, NO, voting with MTG because that’s what your constituents want doesn’t make it right.
I am curious about their rationale.

Quote from Avei, the Goddess of War, Justice, and Women from the webserial The Gods Are Bastards, as she is rebuking transphobes who are (or were, after this speech they aren’t any longer) in her cult, the Sisters of Avei:
““Purity is a nonsense concept.”
Avei’s voice was Trissiny’s, layered with harmonies as if a dozen iterations of the same woman were speaking, and filling the chamber with a physical weight.
“The very idea of *purity* has never been anything but a pretext for egotism. It is an excuse for the weak-willed to single out targets for their condescension, because to scorn a perceived lesser individual is an easier path to self-gratification than the hard work of becoming a greater person. Through cries of *purity,* the corrupt in positions of power distract their followers from their own offenses by directing justified anger against harmless and helpless targets.
“Worse, the slander of *impurity* has ever been a weapon against womankind. In every land, across the whole scope of history, weak and frightened men have called women *impure* for one specious reason after another. For their bodies, for their minds, for any expression of sexuality, simply for bleeding, for *any* excuse, men in undeserving power have declaimed that women are *impure.* They create preposterous rules, demanding that women remain *pure* by adhering to absurd strictures which deny them vital aspects of what it means to be alive. It has never been anything but a pretext for unearned domination. *Purity is a lie.*
“And you take *purity* as the very name of your beliefs? It is a *fitting* description of your utter failure of character. You who declare yourselves *Purists* are engaged in nothing but gatekeeping. You presume to castigate others for the imaginary offense of being unlike yourselves. You try to place yourselves above those who should be your sisters, simply because you are too insecure and frightened to see any more valid way to respect yourselves than by disrespecting others. This pale shadow of a spiritual doctrine is pathetic. But that you possess the hideous *gall* to pronounce the calumny of *purity* in *my* name is *disgusting.”*”

any trans bill is a poison pill, no matter the intent. Transgender health is poorly understood among the voting blocs that are essential to winning. Any “pro-transgender” legislation will be touted by the GOP as some sort of child abuse initiative.

They don’t hate trans people for their freedom and all that, all that is giving them too much credit. They simply hate anyone different from them and seeing the power it gives them to bash a small group of people who others fear for being different as well. It’s been done for ages but it’s never because they think those people are living authentically, it’s simple basic bullying the weak to gain popularity.

I hate that these three sided with the GOP on such an evil bill. But kick them out – and the Dems will lose 3 seats in the almost evenly divided House. On many issues, most issues, they voted with the democrats. Kicking them out will have consequences. We have a good chance of winning the House in the midterms – but not if we kick them out. It’s as simple as that.
It sucks that we’re faced with such stark choices – but that’s the system we have. They won’t get to do so much harm if the Dems control the house – though as we found in the Senate during Biden’s term, just a few bad apples can really screw things up.
