The fact goddamn Republicans, *Mitt goddamned Romney,* can outmaneuver the Democrats from the left w this kind of rhetoric b/c they have refused to embrace their own base, is both embarrassing and dangerous.

Mitt Romney made his wealth by starting a business to have his clients pay as little tax as possible. So it’s rich that he wrote this article.

Nice hollow rhetoric instead of political courage when he had power as a Senator.
Pure tone deafness as wealthy patrician offering to pay “a bit more” just shows his detachment from what people are living.
He’s not a terrible guy (even considering his predatory business background) by the standard of the current malicious administration. But he had a life of privilege and really didn’t achieve anything good for the American people.

It’s better than nothing, but barely. Man had millions of opportunities to do better when he had actual power and influence. Now, he’s out of office and politically irrelevant, and he wants credit and absolution for suddenly being slightly reasonable. If you want to be remembered as the last sane Republican, act like it when it actually matters.

In the article, Romney suggests means testing of Social Security recipients, among other measures. Means tests already exist within the program. The maximum monthly benefit is a cap applied to the PIA. Earnings prior to FRA are recovered on a $1 for $2 basis. Based on unadjusted 1983 and 1993 amounts, MAGI above relatively low sums is subject to taxation at regular income rates. Medicare IRMA is a companion to these requirements. Taxing the “rich” is one means of addressing the trusts’ pending shortfall. But the underlying causes of the shortfall, which the bipartisan 1983 law addressed is left out of the conversation.

Billionaires own politicians. For every Romney and Buffett that tells the masses they’re ok paying taxes, are any of them actually pulling the strings to make it happen? I think we all know the answer.

How about a flat rate tax for everyone, say 10%, no excuses, no exceptions, if an asset changes ownership, 10% of the value one will buy it and one will sell it for, is due from the one who gains the asset. The state will reserve the right to buy the asset at the said value, that way there will be no low balling. I find the incremental tax brackets system that is punishing to those who are trying to earn enough but allows corporations to get away with things, to be long due for an overhaul. But it won’t happen because it suits the rich. He is basically taunting at this point. He knows it won’t happen.

Here’s a novel idea:
-Tax campaign contributions exponentially after a set amount
-Forbid congressional representatives from trading stock
-Create a sovereign wealth fund with taxes on Capital gains
-Incentivize corporations to raise wages by sunsetting the corporate tax cut for all those who refuse to raise wages
-Tax health insurance companies for every Denial of service as to make them more accountable to people not their bottom line
-Make it easier for states to join together to create regional public options similar to the provincial public option Canada started with
These are crazy ideas I just came up with compared to these suggestions Romney has only just started supporting.
We need to go further and more bold than we ever have before. America is in peril and the rich are only starting to wake up.
