The Bureau of Prison examines outgoing/incoming letter from prisoners.The letter was postmarked 3 days before his death. There is no evidence so far that he met Nassar before.
The letter could’ve been a dog whistle to Trump in an attempt to threaten the incriminating/embarrassing info he had on the President.
The correspondence may have served to intimidate Trump into helping him while also maintaining a possible future legal defense, in which Epstein portrays himself as a wealthy man who enjoyed consensual sex with woman whom he wanted to “help” fulfill their potential in life.
