JD Vance Is Wrong: DEI Is Not What’s Dividing America—He Is. In the America that Vance envisions, people are only judged for “who they are”—unless they’re immigrants, transgender, women, Muslims, or people of color.

There’s always going to be another initialed target of conservative racism. They just don’t like non whites. That’s the only common thread in it all.

  2. >If Vance really cared about treating people equally and with dignity, then he would concern himself with tackling the [affordability crisis](https://www.brookings.edu/articles/in-every-corner-of-the-country-the-middle-class-struggles-with-affordability/), increasing [wages](https://www.barrons.com/articles/wage-growth-is-slowing-as-the-labor-market-cools-what-it-means-for-job-mobility-778e51b7?gaa_at=eafs&gaa_n=AWEtsqdPETLQ_XKgmO-kf0qsezJF4iwmh_DQKHNgGHLmynoYvywAOAPiLRc7GwaoSdc%3D&gaa_ts=694a3252&gaa_sig=26Gj-pLEkVv8AeHfx4Nv53lTJDPcxc-ibUCbBRw1NPRcHb88FBrp5FTp04TL4GMEcZjWnSdziiSNiLmegNnHsg%3D%3D), lowering [healthcare costs](https://wpintelligence.washingtonpost.com/topics/2025/12/16/why-health-care-costs-will-skyrocket-2026/), building [more social safety nets](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/26/us/politics/trump-republicans-safety-net-cuts.html)—all issues that the Trump administration is currently failing to address. Worse even, this administration is actively working to undermine many of the [programs](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/46-programs-trump-wants-to-eliminate-according-to-his-proposed-budget) that would help people like Savage who are struggling to get by.

    >No matter what Vance says, being “a great American patriot” will never be enough to succeed within the current capitalist system. And Vance knows this. In [*Hillbilly Elegy*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31363515-hillbilly-elegy), Vance discusses the significance of “social capital,” or leveraging the networks of people and institutions around us to “connect us to the right people, ensure that we have opportunities, and impart valuable information.” For Vance, his social capital, which included Yale professors, tech billionaires, and former presidential speechwriters, was critical to his success. However, that capital is reserved for the upper class. As he writes, “Those who tap into it and use it prosper. Those who don’t are running life’s race with a major handicap. This is a serious problem for kids like me.”

    >Ultimately, Vance is not concerned with equality or discrimination. His attacks on DEI are nothing more than a smokescreen. He is evoking racial animosity to distract his supporters from the real problems that capitalism is generating and that the Trump administration is ignoring. He is hoping to exploit people’s genuine frustrations with the status quo to become president in 2028.

    >Vance preaches inclusivity, but his entire social and political ideology is divisive. [He](https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/jd-vance-praises-nicki-minaj-calls-him-assassin-1236144540/) claims that, “We all got wrapped up over the last few years in zero sum thinking. This was because the people who think they rule the world pit us against one another.” But the reality is that Vance’s [pro-capitalist](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly82yx09zeo), [Christian nationalist](https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2025/12/22/vance-trump-s-heir-apparent-defends-his-christian-nationalism-at-the-turning-point-conference_6748744_4.html), and [ethnonationalist](https://jacobin.com/2025/05/vance-birthright-citizenship-legal-equality) values are all zero sum ways of thinking that function precisely to divide people.

If we don’t get rid of DEI, how else are they suppose to get their DUI hires like that fuckwit in the DOD?

  4. Vance is a bigot and his children of color will see him for who he is. Hopefully by that time he’ll be in jail for treason.

  5. vance says whatever he’s told to say, he probably has no opinions on anything other than “give me money, give me power.” Dude’s a paid actor, nothing more.

  6. >In the America that Vance envisions, people are only judged for “who they are”—unless they’re [immigrants](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/blaming-immigrants-is-jd-vance-answer-for-every-problem.html), [transgender](https://www.yahoo.com/news/jd-vance-becomes-most-blocked-221702490.html), [women](https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/12/politics/jd-vance-childless-cat-ladies), [Muslims](https://ca.news.yahoo.com/jd-vance-says-anti-muslim-031606268.html), or [people of color](https://thegrio.com/2025/12/22/jasmine-crockett-claps-back-after-vice-president-jd-vance-calls-her-street-girl/). Within the *very same* speech that [Vance](https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5659423-vance-fateh-somali-descent-politics/) champions equality for all, he attacks Somali Americans. He tells the audience that “Democrats are not sending their best. Omar Fateh was Ilhan Omar’s candidate for mayor of Mogadishu. Wait, I mean Minneapolis. Little Freudian slip there”—smiling as the crowd laughed along.

    >As one of his former friends puts it, [Vance](https://www.newsweek.com/jd-vance-slammed-former-friend-over-lack-integrity-1931791) is a “chameleon. Someone who is able to change their positions and their values depending on what will amass them political power and wealth. And I think that’s really unfortunate, because it reflects a lack of integrity.” His drastic change of heart about Trump is proof of how easily he can change his colors. Vance went from Trump is “[America’s Hitler](https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/10/01/vance-walz-vp-debate-tonight/vances-past-trump-comments-00182072)” to now serving as his vice president within the span of a few years. His anti-DEI rhetoric is just another political maneuver meant to serve his own interest.

    >All that said, Vance is right about one thing—“The people who think they rule the world pit us against one another.” Those people include him. We can’t let him succeed.

Christian nationalists like Vance don’t view people unlike them as “Americans”. We saw this under McCarthyism and the Lavender Scare, where they banned queer people from being in public society and raided gay bars.

In Christian nationalists eyes, the only great Americans are fundamentalist Christians who desire to eradicate the infidels (Immigrants, black people, transgender people, any queer people). Christian nationalists desire to make America Gilead.

  7. Read an article this morning—and I’ll try to find it—that basically argued that in order to to understand today’s American [reactionary] Right, you must first come to understand “bad-faith politics.”

This will always stick with me.

  8. Progressives can drop this shit, frankly. It is not the hill to die on. Mainstream America is decidedly *not* with you on this. Elections will continue to be lost because of this. It’s a big one. Stop making it easy for the GOP.

  9. LiquidHotMAGMUH on

Funny coz that’s usually the first thing such people bring up as why they’re more important.

  10. PresentAwareness745 on

all DEI means to them is “not enough whites getting jobs because of those minorities”

    it’s not subtle

  11. He envisions an America where he’s the President. He’s married to an Indian woman. He’s just saying what he thinks young Republicans want to hear. He is a husk.

  12. DEI is divisive. It’s objectively racist. Its foundational principles are discriminatory in ways that would not otherwise be tolerated.

  13. Under this regime if you’re not rich enough loyal enough white enough manly man makeup wearing repulsive couch fucker they want you dead or deported

  14. …or the poor. A component of DEI is for urbanites not to look down on those from rural areas. A point severely lost on him.

  15. Stereo_Jungle_Child on

In a strange way, JD is right. But not in quite the way he thinks.

American voters obviously hated the “crazy social justice warrior” DEI policies that the Democrats were pushing SO much that they were willing to vote for an openly-corrupt criminal lunatic like Trump and his couch-fucking idiot lacky VP rather than keep going with whatever the Democrats were offering. If the voters HAD actually wanted more DEI stuff, Trump would have never won the election(s) that he did in the first place.

The fact that the American people were willing to vote for someone like Trump, who they knew full well was a horrible criminal piece of shit, just to get away from what the Democrats were doing, is a pretty powerful rebuke of the Democrats policies when you think about it.

  16. It can be the case that both JD Vance *and* DEI are dividing America. The latter is bad policy and absolutely terrible politics.

  17. Competitive-Ad-9404 on

JD Vance is only there to make sure he counts the electoral votes in favor of Trump in early January 2029, no matter what the electoral college voting shows.

  18. Even now I’m just bewildered by Democrats rushing to defend DEI. Marc Maron was right. We annoyed people into voting fascist and my biggest concern is our leaders may not have learned any lessons from it. Here’s a novel idea to winning elections. Focus on the economy, focus on strengthening unions and focus on fixing our fucking evil healthcare system.

  19. Do you think he’s going to have visitation rights with his kids when he leaves his family for the Kirkk widow?

  20. But he has never said any of that. This is liberal projection. He has been called everything under the sun and the left treats him, President Trump AND their supporters like they are dogs. The left has divided the country into Nazis and “their idea of normal” people.

  21. Pinksamuraiiiii on

His wife must not respect or love herself, with her husband preaching like this, when she is a woman of color. Or maybe she’s fine with it because she’s after power and money, who knows… but she should keep an eye out cause I think Erika is after that seat on the couch 🤣

  22. Or white successful college educated men who oppose all the discrimination every bit as much as anyone else

  23. All these “pro-meritocracy” grifters want to remove DEI because DEI attempts to even out a playing field that has already given advantages to certain groups of people (i.e. straight white men) for *generations*. They want to go back to getting a half-mile head start in the mile long race and not have to worry about anyone else catching up.

  24. KeepinItReal4Ever on

This dude abandoned American culture for a subpar Indian culture and he claims to be a Real American? Same dude dressed as a cartoon character at his wedding? Fuck all the way off

  25. He is only judging you for who you are.

If who you are is anything other than white Christian straight male, he is judging

  26. Efficient_Island7077 on

American having a good job a house a wife and kids a retirement a real legend with hope and optimism

  27. These people all think like 10th century European peasants. They themselves may be nobodies, but they *believe* they’re in a civilizational conflict and holy war for dominance against essentially everyone else in existence. Other religions most prominently, but also every other people or nation that isn’t them.

  28. Well, if JD Vance and Trump had their way America would be full of strong white men and submissive white women that are happy living their lives barefoot and pregnant as God intended.

  29. JustAnotherAltYknow on

No, he is judging them by who they are – it’s just that the traits he’s using can’t be changed and don’t actually say anything about the character of the person.
To him, they are women, they are brown, they are trans… nothing else

  30. Defiant_Regular3738 on

How is it dividing America if they got rid of it and fixed everything? Riddle me that couch fucker?

  31. Interesting-Art-957 on

DEI is discrimination. It can, and should be made illegal. DEI is literally hiring people based off their race, sex, and gender, rather than who can actually do the job better.

I’m a Democrat, and I support the legal banning of DEI. Racism is racism there is no gray area.

  32. Ornery-Ticket834 on

Vance should look at himself, Trumps cabinet and most of Trumps judicial appointments. They are all DEI hires that are unqualified as the day is long. Screw him.

  33. By dividing America they mean “not allowing us to discriminate in peace.”

Words mean different things to them than they do to us. The faster we learn that the better

  34. This fucking guy…happy to defend Curtis Yarvin silly high school shit, refuses to defend his wife and kids – charisma of a flounder, ambitions of a starfish, absolute joke of a man.
