The funniest thing about this is that the ones who follow through on the threat usually end up in Texas, where the wealth tax (“property tax”) is near the nation’s highest

They should leave, and good riddance. But they won’t because they can afford it and CA has a great climate, tons of culture, and is generally a nice place to live if you’re filthy rich.

  3. Uber tried this bullshit with driver insurance. Once the bill was voted down out of fear Uber rubbed all of Californias face in their shit saying “California was too valuable a market to ever leave”. NEVER trust corporations! California is the 5th largest economy on the planet, billionaires leaving this state would basically give all future tech growth to India and china

  4. threatening if i have to compromise i’ll leave is the very definition of bully codependent behavior. also, no they won’t.

  5. This shows how billionaires don’t want anything but to hoard their wealth while avoiding paying their fair share in taxes.

    Ban billionaires.

**F**or us to care about Billionaire moving out, first the billionaires would need to pay taxes.

  7. For most of them they won’t even actually leave, they’ll just change their primary residence (a technicality) but they will move whatever businesses they have to incorporate to another state. Most will still live here but the state will lose out on a lot. These state level taxes are pretty dumb because they’re so easily avoided.

The Massachusetts Millionaires Tax seems to be working. We have MORE millionaires than when we voted to enact it.

  9. They’re not going anywhere, the only time these people start fleeing is when they have to go to jail.

I respect Khanna for this. I previously wondered if he was bought, I’m glad he’s not.

  11. Tech billionaires are like sports teams now “give us tax breaks and build us a stadium or we are leaving!”.

Billionaires always say they’re going to leave at the slightest inconvenience but they rarely ever do. Someone like you or me can get up and find a new job in a new city or even country, but people like this have so much invested into their operations that it would cost them fortunes to pack up and move capriciously like this.

Prove me wrong. Going forward when there’s a marginal tax increase that billionaires cry about, see how many of them actually put their money where their mouths are.

Ro Khanna is literally financed by the same people he’s “calling out”. He owns stock in Palintir. He takes Peter Thiel money. He saved Elon Musk from being hauled in front of congress. He’s full of it.

Oh no, those people who don’t pay taxes want to leave and stop using our resources for free. What will we ever do?

  15. Go and have them move to conservative states or cities. They’ll realize that it’s not as enjoyable and diverse as states that care about their residents. It’s like being rich in India. We share the same air, environment, and quality of life.

Your state will miss them and their financial contributions!!! I hope they come to Florida!!

But how oh how will we pay for everything without their contribution of zero percent of their income?!?
