  1. Fuck the GOP. And fuck those eight Democrat senators who flipped and voted to end the shutdown. They’re either idiots, spineless or very corrupt. Regardless of the reason, they cost Americans health insurance for a pinky promise to vote on Obamacare subsidies which, as expected, didn’t happen.

  2. It’s what the American masses voted for actively or passively (not voting aHarris, being stupid enough to vote third party) so let them enjoy what they have set in motion.

A teetering health “system” based on business, not altruism or the public good. This next year will be the whimpering end of health care for anyone who relied on charity or compassion. Big Business has destroyed American industry, degraded ethics and morals and has led to the Trump administration and its ruin of any faith in our leaders. We need a regime change more than Venezuela.

The silver lining is that maybe these maga fools will gtfu and stop voting against their own interests this midterm when they see their premiums skyrocket.

Edit: I’ll add that Obamacare saved my sister’s life and she just found out her premiums are doubling and she did not vote for this ghoul… it’s disgusting

  5. It’s intentional and Trumps first step to eliminating Obamacare, one of his primary goals. Not because it helps or doesn’t help people, but bc it’s part of Obama’s legacy and Trump wants to destroy that.

All planned by GOP. If there is a huge uproar they blame the ACA for being flawed. If the people effected aren’t effective at getting their stories out, then the govt doesn’t spend the money and the GOP can give it to rich donors some other way. This is what they have learned from Trump. Don’t fear the voters. They aren’t that organized and they are easily distracted. For example, for years the GOP didn’t get rid of PBS funding for fear of the backlash, Trump showed them they didn’t need to worry about consequences

  7. The richest country on the planet and the only developed nation without a proper healthcare system (what we have is not a healthcare system whatsoever). We need Medicare for All. These insurance companies have fucked this country over enough. And having insurance tied to employment may as well be a ball and chain.

Fuck all of congress. Folded on the shutdown just to have this go through. “We’ll continue to fight after the shutdown is over” my ass. Our government is a joke and needs a hard reset.

  9. The GOPs plan has always been to privatize everything so that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Didn’t the GOP fill the news shows 2 weeks ago saying they were ‘hard at work’ on a better plan? Where is that? When will their constituents hold them to their word?

  11. Of course Fox News would try to pin this at least partially on democrats. And to quote Josh Hawley? Bah!

  12. I guess the GOP and swing voters need to actually feel the consequences of their votes. Here it comes…

  13. I’m shocked that the headline doesn’t pin the blame on Democrats. It’s so weird to see a headline even come close to acknowledging that Republicans hold the majority and Democrats aren’t driving the bus.

This will be the nail in the coffin for GOP in midterms. No healthcare for millions and groceries too expensive. Done. Cooked. And they know it. Watch for attempts to suspend or stall elections. This will be a blue tsunami if actual votes are counted. ICE will be immediately defunded and impeachments left and right.

  15. The ACA (RomneyCare, ObamaCare) is as close to universal healthcare as we ever got. It was originally a Heritage Foundation proposal lol.

Now all to be lost as we go back to the 60s/70s/80s where people would not see doctors out of fear their lifetime of assets will be exposed to medical debt if there was a cancer/other diagnosis.

My mom was “downsized” at age 57 in the 80s. Healthy as a horse but deemed old and thus a liability due to company health care premiums which singled out older employees. She could not find employment with good health benefits due to being old so she never saw a doctor until Medicare at 65. Lived off of her savings and said if she ever felt sick, she’d never seek treatment.

It is beyond bizarre we are going back in time thirty, forty, fifty years. Like everyone forgets those awful times.

  16. Millions of healthy people can’t afford insurance just driving cost up, since only the sick are insured.. Even if they fix it somewhat, don’t forget who drove this bus come November voting day.

  17. I don’t like Obamacare. Forcing people to buy subsided private insurance is absurd…. But forcing people to buy *unsubsidized* private insurance is obviously even worse. Single-payer or a public option is the only real solution to the healthcare crisis in the US.

  18. Misleading title. It should read Republicans kill Affordable Care Act subsidies. Call it what it is.

  19. They’ve already surged. I had to pay my January bill on December 15 and it’s $300 more per month than last year with even less coverage.

  20. I just wish that I felt bad for all of the people who voted for this and are about see their premiums surge. I wish I did, but I don’t….FAFO

  21. Elysium_Planitia on

My premiums are already high for the new year. Trump and his administration can suck a fat one.

At this point, Republicans are the party of “you can’t have anything nice.” Seriously, is there a single thing modern Republicans have done that benefits anyone other than the rich?

  23. Its almost like the Republican Party doesn’t care about the American people.

    Oh yeah….

  24. redditdoesnotcareany on

Break it, point to it being broken for the reason it needs to be changed, replace it with nothing. Republican government folks.

  25. What drives me nuts is that conservatives are defending this with “well the GOP didn’t vote for the ACA and Democrats gave the subsidies an expiration, why is it the GOP’s job to fix it?”

BECAUSE THEY’RE THE PARTY IN POWER AND THE ENTIRE POINT OF GOVERNMENT IS TO WORK FOR THE PEOPLE.

But when I point this out, the tribalism is so deep in their bones that they just cannot grasp the point.

It doesn’t matter who passed what in the past. Today, right here and now, Americans are getting hit regardless of party and it sucks. If you have the power to fix it and you’re not fixing it, it’s you that’s on the hook, not anyone else.
