Iraq was a fucking disaster, but we went in with a plan. That Trump and his crew took ONE guy out of the country and expected the whole attitude of the ENTIRE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to shift is telling on themselves.

If anything, it’d be worse. Much worse. For the past two decades, our forces have prepped primarily for desert insurgencies. Venezuela has lush jungles, massive cities, and some of the largest mountains in South America. Guess what it *doesn’t* have? And guess what our last jungle war was? When has an occupation succeeded since the early 19th century? Meaningful firepower combined with guerilla tactics and suicide bombing makes occupation *extremely* challenging, I imagine.

If the goal was complete destruction, the US would have won every single war it was ever in. But as we have all learned about warfare in the modern age, wanting to capture something means nothing if you destroy it all, which means you need to fight for it on the ground, and that complicates your victory conditions. It’s also important to remember that one big reason this guy wants to get rid of anyone a shade of brown is because they might cause problems on account of the US taking over their country. You think someone is going to steal away Mexico and all of South America, and not have something happen? It’s easier to bomb brown people when they’re half a world a way, not when they’re on your doorstep and a part of your population.
Trump is now effectively the American dictator.
