Real democracies have checks on the president/PM. The USA is a flawed one as Trump will keep commiting numerous crimes, pardon himself and go on his merry way.

Trump’s followers and loyalists are trying so desperately to rationalize his actions while also trying to reconcile with the immense cognitive dissonance they feel as they safeguard Trump from any and all criticism after swallowing his “America first” isolationism bullsh-t during his campaign.
All the pro-Trump mouthpieces are twisting themselves into pretzels trying to defend his oil grabbing motives, his appetite for expansionism and his unilateral abuse of war powers.
News flash, this was never about combatting drug smuggling (see Trump’s pardon of the former Honduran president who trafficked massive amounts of drugs into the US), it was always about regime change, about finding a justification for conducting summary executions outside the US and about escalating the US’s military presence overseas (not just in Venezuela).
And yes, of course, the oil reserves…
It wasn’t too long ago that Trump was spouting lies and platitudes about “America first” this and that, followed by cheers from his mindless supporters.
Then as soon as he won the election, he started talking about aggressive pursuits like colonizing Greenland, annexing Canada, and seizing international trade routes.
And now he’s attacked and/or bombed a record breaking number of countries within his first year back in office and he’s threatening to do the same to other nations and/or territories that don’t toe whatever line Trump draws in the sand.
He’s also managed to convert a large chunk of his base into staunch advocates of good ol’ fashion US imperialism; making it the new MAGA foreign policy while not only contradicting himself, but also the vast amount of conservatives who complained for years about the routineness of US military interventions overseas.
To make matters worse, Trump has already stated that he’s going to exhaust US resources to “run” Venezuela in the interim while stripping the country of ITS resources and escalating military operations, which can’t be accomplished without putting US troops on the ground, nor without inspiring some civil unrest and violence. Meanwhile, Trump can’t even “run” his own country properly…
And with Maduro’s own loyalists refusing to relinquish power, Trump’s stated next step is to order more military incursions.
What follows is more “nation building” at the risk of history repeating itself. More reckless interventionism at the cost of lives and the American economy, save for the military industrial complex and the oil industry. More global-policing disguised as protecting America’s interests, influence and image on the world stage; an image Trump has already tarnished.
If you are actually under the delusion that this has anything to do with drug smuggling, then I have some Trump meme coin to sell you.
And how can anyone sincerely believe that this is about putting an end to Maduro’s dictatorial reign when Trump has spent his time in office cozying up with foreign autocrats, violent militarists, monarchs and petro-fascists for his own personal, political and financial enrichment, and all while he is consolidating power at home under his own brand of kleptocratic dictatorship?
This is just a launching point for broader US military involvement in countries or territories that don’t submit to Trump’s deranged and narcissistic whims. A move that empowers Trump to attack any foreign nation he deems a threat and/or a strategic boon to the US.
Meanwhile, his supporters can’t see their own hypocrisy. In such a short time they’ve gone from isolationists to expansionists, from non-intervention to brawn-intervention because they unquestionably defend Trump’s every word or action and blindly worship him like a god; incapable of admitting, or even being consciously aware of the fact that Trump’s foreign policy is an extension of his ego, that he is utterly unfit to serve, that he is not and never has been “America first.” He is Trump first, always…

Given that we were able to just go into another country and abduct their leader in the middle of the night, without yet facing any consequences, what’s to stop another country from doing the same thing to the US?

They won’t. Not unless Trump tries to invade the EU and probably would be petty enough to start with Scotland for daring to hate him for what his piece of shit course did to a natural landscape. Fuck, Farage would likely welcome it and open the damn way for it.
I think the only thing Congress would throw a massive hissy fit and actively remove him is:
Him ordering nuclear war.

Okay but why those 6 specific countries? Why did they leave Mexico and Canada off that list? Sure it’s been… several whole months since the last time Trump’s regime mentioned annexing Canada, but they threatened Mexico this past weekend.
