Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States.
Greenland is a territory of Denmark.
What would the US do if someone occupied Puerto Rico?
Occupying Puerto Rico or Greenland is an act of war. It’s the same. Easies.
Of course, the US has a pretty large military, whereas Denmark does not. However, both are (still) in NATO. There’ll be frictions…

It wasn’t too long ago that Trump was spouting lies and platitudes about “America first” this and that, followed by cheers from his mindless supporters.
Then as soon as he won the election, he started talking about aggressive pursuits like colonizing Greenland, annexing Canada, and seizing international trade routes.
And now he’s attacked and/or bombed a record breaking number of countries within his first year back in office and he’s threatening to do the same to other nations and/or territories that don’t toe whatever line Trump draws.
He’s also managed to convert a large chunk of his MAGA base into staunch advocates of good ol’ fashion US imperialism; making it the new MAGA foreign policy while not only contradicting himself, but also the vast amount of conservatives who complained for years about the routineness of US military interventions overseas.
To make matters worse, Trump has already stated that he’s going to exhaust US resources to “run” Venezuela in the interim while stripping the country of ITS resources and escalating military operations, which can’t be accomplished without putting US troops on the ground, nor without inspiring some civil unrest and violence. Meanwhile, Trump can’t even “run” his own country properly…
And with some of Maduro’s staunch loyalists refusing to accept the circumstances, Trump’s stated next step is to order more military incursions.
What follows is more “nation building” at the risk of history repeating itself. More reckless interventionism at the cost of lives and the American economy, save for the military industrial complex and the oil industry. More global-policing disguised as protecting America’s interests, influence and image on the world stage; an image Trump has already tarnished.
And how can anyone sincerely believe that this is about putting an end to Maduro’s dictatorial reign when Trump has spent his time in office cozying up with foreign autocrats, violent militarists, monarchs and petro-fascists for his own personal, political and financial enrichment, and all while he is consolidating power at home under his own brand of kleptocratic dictatorship?
This is just a launching point for broader US military involvement in countries or territories that don’t submit to Trump’s deranged and narcissistic whims. A move that empowers Trump to attack and/or ensnare any foreign state he deems a threat or a strategic boon to the US.
Meanwhile, his supporters can’t see their own hypocrisy. In such a short time they’ve gone from isolationists to expansionists, from non-intervention to brawn-intervention because they unquestionably defend Trump’s every word or action and blindly worship him like a god; incapable of admitting, or even being consciously aware of the fact that Trump’s foreign policy is an extension of his ego, that he is utterly unfit to serve, that he is not and never has been “America first.” He is Trump first, always…

From a strictly military perspective, the U.S. already “has” Greenland through the 1951 Greenland Treaty.
In practice, the U.S. has virtually unrestricted access and even the right to request Danish assistance for its installations on the island. The reason only the Thule Air Base remains is that the others were closed for budgetary reasons.
As for natural resources, they are expensive to extract and of questionable value for obvious reasons. So what Trump is actually after is hard to understand.
The same people in Trump’s camp who are most vocal about U.S. world dominance and invading other countries can hardly even recognize their own indigenous population as Americans, so I am very skeptical that Greenlanders would see any improvement by switching rulers.
Personally, I have no opinion on whether Greenland wants to be independent or belong to a country other than its old colonial power, Denmark. What I do know is that, as someone who values freedom, I would be completely outraged if a foreign superpower said, “We need your land, and we’ll take it by force if necessary.”
