  1. Well the current administration is right wing authoritarian so it’s gonna be an uphill battle for the base if we don’t get more non trumpers in there this year.

Washington is starting to notice 10 years too late.
It’s like steering a cruise ship, you can’t turn the government on a dime.

We are slowly slowly slowly turning left.

  3. And this is why the Democratic party has so much contempt for their voter base. The DNC needs the GOP to be so cartoonishly evil so the Dems don’t actually have to push policy that helps the majority of the population and harms their corporate donors.

The majority of this sub: “you live in an echo chamber, nobody actually likes progressive policies, they want stable, old, rich centrists!”

Stable, old, rich centrists: *lose election*

Majority of this sub: “this is your fault for complaining about them, you sabatouge their victory, this isn’t just some kind of echo chamber!!!”

  5. And that is the issue. Our leaders don’t want to give us what we support because that would mean going against their corporate backers. That leaves the only way we that we and the leadership unite is when the Republicans threat shows itself to be so evil that supporting corporatists is the better option.

Rural voters may be socially conservative, but they are more populist on economic issues. A lot of rural voters chose Sanders in the Democratic primary in 2016 over Hillary Clinton. The working class (even whites included) was once a core part of the Democratic base.

The Democrats are too pro-corporate. This is how Trump got elected in the first place. He knows there is a group of people that have been ignored by both parties for decades. He hasn’t helped those people at all, and the Democrats need to stop ignoring those people. Trump just created a bogeyman for family farmers: immigrants. Immigrants are not the reason family farms have been running out of business for decades—Big Agriculture is the reason those family farms have been running out of business for decades. I think Bernie Sanders gets it, and the Democrats do not talk about it anywhere near as much as they should. Farmers once voted for America’s two most liberal presidents in American history: FDR and LBJ. Price support programs for family farmers kept family farmers voting for Democrats until Ronald Reagan.

A majority of Americans are Social Democratic. Look at the polls for everything from Medicare for all to minimum wage. Americans want an FDR revival and have for decades.

There are far to many in this sub who believe the base of the party is some Liz Cheney corporate Dem

so the type of capitalism that inevitably leads to the point where we are now

they dont want to change the system that enables this

  10. Really sloppy article.

I don’t understand the nostalgia for the 1970s. It wasn’t a good decade economically.

The notion that workers would be making $28,000 more per year if we’d never had Ronald Reagan is absurd. The economy would have grown at a slower rate, which would have led to lower wages all around.

If we looked at democrats outside of these social media bubbles will that hold true?

Except for the base choosing Clinton, Biden, and Harris. We had a clear choice in 2020:

    * Warren: get something done, lock people up.
    * Sanders: great ideas but get nothing done.
    * Biden: “I can work with my Republican colleagues and we need to move on, not lock people up.”

We all know what we chose, and the results were entirely predictable.

The Democrat base is “social” in the same way the Republican base is lowercase C “conservative.” It’s not.
