    From the article:

Republicans overwhelmingly oppose President Donald Trump using military force to take control of Greenland, as tensions have soared with Denmark and other NATO allies over the administration’s repeated threats.

New polling released by CBS News and YouGov, conducted from January 14 to 16, shows that large majorities of Democrats, independents, and Republicans oppose the president taking the island territory by force.

The president recently warned NATO that anything short of U.S. control of Greenland would be “unacceptable,” and the leaders of all 27 European Union nations gathered on Sunday for an emergency meeting to discuss possible responses to Trump’s tariff threat.

  2. So basically, the consensus is “Universal healthcare? Nah. Free college? Nope. Annexing Greenland? Now you’ve gone too far.”

  3. I would certainly hope they would be against it. But again. It’s 2026, and from what I’ve seen I have not much hope for either party getting us out of this nightmare. The only hope I have is my neighbors and friends, and people who authentically care for each other.

Fuck everyone else. And fuck anyone who voted for this narcissistic piece of shit some call our president. I’m calling him what he is. Useless.

And yet the Republicans in Congress who represent this “overwhelming” group are too busy gulping “The Orange” and talking in Russian.

  5. ProfessionalCraft983 on

They are now. Once he does attack Greenland, suddenly they’ll be in favor of it. Just watch.

  6. Meanwhile collectively they’re all saying “IT’S JUST A JOKE BRO!  HERE’S WHAT HE REALLY MEANT!”

  7. > The new polling by CBS News/YouGov shows that 70 percent of Republicans are against Trump utilizing military force to take control of Greenland. Among Democrats, that number is 97 percent, whereas it is 90 percent among independents. Overall, 86 percent of U.S. adults opposed military force against the U.S. ally.

You know what? I never thought I would actually see that much agreement on an issue. I guess the question is whether republicans care enough to do something about it.

  8. It’s weird though – they’re against it but don’t seem too bothered that Trump is mooting it in the first place.

If they’re actually against this then they should be furious that Trump is seemingly bringing the US into an unnecessary war against US allies.

But the outrage is only against the idea of taking Greenland and not against the guy actually suggesting it

  9. ThirdDegree741 on

They are opposed until he actually makes a move on Greenland, then they will overwhelmingly fall in line

  10. Bullshit. They say they are against it and he would never do it because it’s insane and unpopular. As soon as he does it, it will be the best most patriotic smartest thing ever done and they always support it.

    NOTHING THEY SAY MEANS ANYTHING.

  11. Minimum-Style-1411 on

From anything I have witnessed by republicans reining in Trump, they aren’t even vocally against Trump using the military on Americans.  They  are complicit in his economic terrorism tactics and continue to support his batshit lunacy on all fronts.

  12. WWIII

    NATO would defend Greenland

World markets would toss America into the fucking toilet

Trade with America to a fucking standstill

No planes landing in NATO countries

    American military bases expelled

Republicans need to deal with Trump right fucking now

  13. That’s before Fox News tell them what to think.

It’s not unusual for them to have reasonable take before they get their marching orders.

  14. failureat111N31st on

Republicans also overwhelmingly in favor of hoarding power over the best interests of the country.

  15. Venturis_Ventis on

Those who realize Trump is a fascist but nonetheless stay silent about it because it benefits them are fellow travelers, plain and simple. They’re at least as bad as the Germans who profiteered from property confiscated from the Jews. If not worse.

It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks anymore. We are passed all normal procedures and politics. We are in a dictatorship that wants to ruin the natural order of the world.

  17. Well if there are any Republicans against it, it’s certainly not [Ted Cruz](https://www.forbes.com/sites/zacharyfolk/2026/01/18/ted-cruz-lauds-trumps-america-first-greenland-threats-after-viral-clip-bashing-president-resurfaced/).

And none of them seem all that eager to actually *do* anything to stop him. Like saying “If you invade a NATO ally, we will immediately impeach and remove you before the troops even reach Nuuk.”

If Republicans are serious on protecting Greenland, that would literally be all they have to do. Well, that and be willing to follow through if Trump tries to call your bluff.

  18. So 30% of of Republicans support Trump utilising military force to take control of Greenland, a peaceful ally and a NATO protected territory.

    Let that sink in….

    America, you have a problem.

  19. Here are the cold realities of it. The headline implies that what Republicans want matters. It doesn’t.

The US is an oligarchy. The rich people are getting what they want. The rest is window-dressing.

  20. My interpretation of this is that they don’t believe he will use the military to take Greenland a the moment, and are hedging themselves on that side of history right now.

If and when he does, we will see strong majorities of Republicans reporting that it was a good thing.

  21. Vegetable-Seaweed591 on

    Actions speak louder than words.

Republicans have been saying they’re against Trump’s statements and actions for a decade and yet they consistently support and empower him.

Republicans are actively supporting invading Greenland by not actively resisting it.

  22. Kentucky Congressman James Comer will be starting an investigation into the Greenland invasion. He believes the evidence is on Hunter’s laptop.

  23. Do something or shut your fucking mouths. All the fucking lip service with no action. How can minority of americans with 8 functioning brain cells max, keep a whole planet hostage?
I so hope all of that house of cards comes crashing down on everyone who is still not fighting for their country.

  24. Weird, the conservative subreddit is mass removing comments that are too critical of it and mass banning anyone who dares mention that this is the kind of conduct the 25th amendment was for.

We have a pedophilic rapist as president who is currently trying to conquer GREENLAND because he’s mad he didn’t get a Nobel peace prize and desperate to shift attention away from being a fucking pedophile.

This is what republicans wanted, are you owning the libs yet?

  25. Rational_Engineer_84 on

Rephrase the question as “would you support the impeachment and removal of Trump if it prevented a military takeover of Greenland” and watch how quickly the Republican disapproval dries up. This is meaningless, and it’s why there’s no pushback from GOP Congress members. They know that confronting Trump is more politically damaging than supporting war against our NATO allies.

GOP disagreement over Greenland is like being against pineapple on pizza. They’ll state their opinion but they aren’t going to do anything about it, not even change their voting habits.
