  1. Sonny Bunch saw “Melania” so you don’t have to and it’s no surprise that it’s not good. Sonny is joined by JVL to give their takes on why the movie makes no sense as a business proposition, Donald Trump’s central role in shaping its purpose, and the decision to put the project in the hands of Brett Ratner, a director exiled from Hollywood after multiple sexual misconduct allegations, as part of his attempted comeback.

  2. I went & saw Send Help Friday night & looked at the Cinemark app for Melania at around the same time. It showed about 30 tickets sold. I walked in after it had already started & the theater was empty.

The weekend Box Office shows it made 7,000,000 in 1778 theaters.

Some people have stated that tickets around the US were bought by Christian groups to inflate the numbers & give away those tickets which no one used.

  3. The movie is just an attempt to whitewash her public image . All that money and makeup are in vain when we all know the truth.

This is a pricey commercial to turn her into a saint, but the people aren’t fools.

Of course it was a bribe. Good lord, who would pay their good money to watch this piece of shit get in and out of cars and talk on the phone.

  5. A reminder that appeasing tyrants doesn’t work. You can make them happy today, but they don’t keep track of the tally. You do something they don’t like tomorrow and you’re on the bad list. It doesn’t matter if you did 5 things last week.

  6. A film like that should have ordinarily cost perhaps $1 million to make.

It’s a classic kickback scheme: Grossly inflate the budget, then move the money into the pockets of the scheme’s beneficiaries.

In this case, Melania was paid over $20 million. That is an absurd amount of money for what that is. She is being paid more than Scarlett Johannson is paid to star in those Marvel films that actually make bank.

In this case, I would not be surprised if a lot of tickets were purchased by Amazon. Bezos does not want Trump to be embarrassed by this.

  7. I don’t think there has *ever* been an American ‘movie’ with more fake [verified] positive reviews out of the gate than Melania, and Melania herself becomes one of the highest paid ‘actors’ of the year with this transparent graft, the total cost of the film somehow greater than the incredible 12 hour long Ken Burns docu-series ‘The American Revolution’.

What a fucking joke America truly *is* with these stupid bastards at the helm.

The reviews are in and they are ABYSMAL all around but for the paid/bot accounts flooding sites like Rotten Tomatoes with groveling impressions that all contain the same language and flattering tones, even the same exact words and phrases—verbatim—while not even making an effort to hide the fact.

REMINDER that this is also the same “documentary” that had TWO-THIRDS of its crew members demand they have their names REMOVED from the project. Hmm, I wonder why?

The same “MELANIA” that is being sold as propaganda to MAGA audiences who are eager to “stick it to the Hollywood liberals” by buying a ticket to a trainwreck.

Also the same Melania Trump who decided it would be a clever idea to showcase her lavish lifestyle and gold-diggery to the few MAGA chumps who actually pay money to watch her display of self-indulgence while they struggle financially thanks to her husband’s policies. How bafflingly out of touch!

The same shitty documentary that exposes how the Trump family continues to monetize and profit off the presidency by grifting supporters and by openly and shamelessly engaging in massive insider enrichment schemes.

In this case, the Trumps actually deserve the title of “crime family” after receiving an immense and unprecedented payout from Jeff Bezos, no doubt in exchange for political favors and lax regulations.

I guess the only solace is knowing that Barack Obama won several major awards for his documentary-related work, which will certainly eat away at Donald Trump’s ego as “Melania” amounts to a huge flop. He’ll probably lose sleep over it because he’s so damn insecure and vindictive.

That said, Trump is certainly not above establishing his own Oscar-like award committee and appointing himself as chair so he can receive more fake prizes and participation trophies.

  9. Who the fuck cares to see a movie about her? She’s not interesting and hasn’t achieved anything

The only thing that would make me think it’s not a bribe is that there’s so much corruption out in the open. Why is any subterfuge necessary? Just hand over a bag of money.

  11. TerribleServe6089 on

Of course it is why would you spend $75 million to highlight and celebrate the Slovenian genius named Melania. Her greatest talent is the ability to say anal is extra in five languages.

Conservatives think a woman who sold her body to the highest bidder in exchange for citizenship is classy.

  13. Kind_Relative812 on

77 million people absolutely wouldn’t go see this, another 70 some million don’t care either way so they wouldn’t see it either, another 70 million might think she is ok but only 3% might actually spend the money to go see it and all of these numbers I just made up just like the positive reviews of this movie.

  14. Not a technically a “bribe”…more like a shake-down:

“It would be a shame, Brett, a tremendous shame, if you somehow got implicated in that nasty Epstein Island business, after all the fun you had down there with our friend Jeffery. But I have a favor to ask you, first…”

  15. The bribe has already been paid; they dont care how hard the movie flops.

Maybe melania cares, but I dont really care, do you?

  16. Someone suggested streaming Becoming, the 2020 Documentary on Netflix about Michelle Obama to see if it can get bumped up to a top streaming spot.

So, now I’m finally watching Becoming. It’s pretty fascinating, ngl. It’s rough to watch, though, considering where we are now, just a few years later.

I breathed and pooped today. Oh I thought we were just saying obvious shit as headlines rather than ya know doing any actual meaningful shit to better our society

  18. If America didn’t want the government to be run by a convicted criminal taking bribe money in exchange for favors, then they should not have elected trump. It is known.

  19. the_gaymer_girl on

Wired looked into it and only *two* of 1400 theatres that showed the movie sold out.

  20. Responsible_Tree3369 on

The fact that the Reddit keeps focusing on this means it’s already doing the work it needs to.

  21. Do we even need to state the obvious? Bribe. Tribute. Whatever you want to call this particular flavor of corruption.

  22. I have to wonder how much of the $75 million was for purchasing movie tickets online that nobody sat in?

  23. Boycott Amazon for a month or as long as you feel. I canceled Prime and stopped shopping at Whole Foods. I can handle this slight inconvenience instead of supporting a company that has no guts to stand up to Trump.

  24. This seems more like a criminal conspiracy to commit fraud given that anyone with 2 braincells knew it would be a flop of monumental magnitude.

  25. As long as Americans are fine with all the crime… 🤷

I mean… The US president is a known criminal and paedophile. He regularly shits himself live on TV. He stole millions while costing billions.

Maybe Americans should hold their leader accountable? But that’s non of my business.
