Nashville is furious about power outages. Republicans say ‘woke’ is to blame.
As Nashville’s utility company struggled to recover from a catastrophic ice storm and its Democratic mayor ordered a review, some conservatives attacked diversity training.

Lmao. Yet these “woke” cities/states infrastructure seems to do much better during inclement weather.

A state full of “soft people” who can’t deal with weather. Meanwhile in the Northern states we are prepared and self-reliant.

  3. Republicans to make sure to keep state income income taxes taxes at zero, and then question why things like the grid are not properly funded.

Stupid people vote against their own interests and then blame everyone else. What a world we live in.

Marsha Blackburn-I always remember what Taylor Swift called her” Donald Trump in a wig” lol. That was one of the nicest things anybody ever said about that vile liar.

Is woke controlling the weather? Is woke forcing utility companies to keep their grids in disrepair? No… Woke is bouncing on tree limbs causing them to fall on power lines.

Man, Ontario and Quebec used to LOVE sending hydro crews with cold weather experience down to help struggling states. Seems like they’re not doing that for some reason. Can’t think of why those Canadian Provinces wouldn’t be in a hurry to send their crews into a foreign country to render aide at no cost to that foreign country…

I feel like the solution here is something woke like weatherizing for climate change and extreme weather events

  9. Diversity training attacked because it caused an ice storm…. Is this for real? Are we back to the days of wizards, witches and warlocks again with these people??

  10. The south is now constantly dealing with biblical level floods, hurricanes, ice storms, etc on a yearly basis and yet they still blame everything and everyone but climate change. Jesus himself could down from heaven to tell them they’re fucking everything up and they still wouldn’t accept it.

  11. Republicans boogeyman words: “woke” and “DEI”

To deflect from “rich old white pedophile”

  12. So, wokeness caused the ice storm? I figured they’d blame it for the actual storm itself. As to the SNAFU that occurred, DEI had nothing to do with it. I’ve seen similar foul ups in some very conservative utilities.

You’re either part of the problem or part of the solution. It’s obvious what the Republican whiners have chosen.

I live in Nashville and just got power back after 9 days out. It doesn’t have anything to do with DEI or party lines, it just has to do with incompetence in leadership. They staged ~150 lineworkers in preparation for a “snowstorm”. The weather models 3+ days out were forecasting mostly an icy mix. Every power company around here had 4-5x the lineworkers on standby for an ice storm. MTE, the closest electric company, had 5x the lineworkers for 1/10 the outages.

On top of that, there was a massive decrease to the tree cutting budget over the last few years. I had a neighbor with a tree that was hanging over a power line. They asked NES to cut the tree multiple times and, every time, were told it wasn’t close enough. That tree came down during the storm and took the power lines (along with two poles) down. That’s one of many instances. MTE, on the other hand, is very aggressive in their tree maintenance. It showed during the storm.

People should be outraged, but it’s so sad that this is being used as political ammo. That anger should solely be focused on solutions to prevent this in the future, since this type of storm will happen again here as the weather continues to get more extreme.

  15. Blaming DEI for their incompetence is just a racist and misogynist dog whistle to low-information conservatives. It implies that the failure was caused by hiring a woman or someone with darker skin. Fucking morons

  16. Middle Tennessee has just been broken for years. Lie, get elected because of the R or locally because of business connections, lure out-of-state business, invest nothing into infrastructure, Profit.

Williamson County is growing rapidly because their schools aren’t ass? Hmm. Better elect some realtors to city alderman positions and never widen the roads or invest in, I don’t know, maybe a commuter train from Thompsons Station to downtown Franklin and Nashville? People would’ve loved that. The train tracks are already there and the scenery is gorgeous. Just sad.

It’s not super deep. It does make me sad though. Haslam somehow ran a better government than these twerps.

Blackburn is going to squeeze the lemon of the area as hard as she can.

  17. It’s capitalism. It’s always capitalism. Every extended blackout is a direct result of minimizing expenses and maximizing profits by doing the minimum amount of maintenance possible to keep the grid up in typical situations. The moment it exceeds those conditions, which is absolutely predictable and guaranteed to happen occasionally, they let it crash. Cheaper to fix than to over build adequate capacity that drives down electircity pricing.

how about a utility that didn’t maintain infrastructure properly knowing a freeze was coming? This comes from the top down… has NO political affiliation
