The SAVE act requires a passport or a Real ID with the same name as the birth certificate, which means married women who changed their last name would have to have a passport to vote. (https:// http://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/how-the-save-america-act-would-make-major-changes-to-voting)

But libraries who process passports have been FORCED to stop.
“The U.S. State Department has ordered certain public libraries nationwide to cease processing passport applications, disrupting a long-standing service that librarians say their communities have come to rely on and that has run smoothly for years.
The agency, which regulates U.S. passports, began issuing cease and desist orders to not-for-profit libraries in late fall, informing them they were no longer authorized to participate in the Passport Acceptance Facility program as of Friday.”

In light of this, how would married women still be able to vote if there isnt enough staff to process passports? Would they have to change their last name?

  2. That will disproportionately impact rural voters. Hope they remember which party made this part of their life less convenient.

  3. Government-run libraries are not impacted because, like most all govt. run agencies, just like libraries, are being operated by the folks who drafted the 2025 Reich Agenda.

  4. They know it’s illegal, they’re doing it anyway. Get tied up in the courts while enforcing it, let the election happen while everything’s up in the air, de-legitimize the results, cause chaos in the meantime.

Don’t ask for permission, don’t give a fuck about forgiveness.

Libraries should help the people anyway: fuck their rules, let their dwindling numbers come after them.

  5. What a coincidence happening at the same time Republicans are trying to pass illegal voter ID laws that violate the constitution.

  6. Wtf?! So now libraries can’t even help with passports? Seems so petty and totally counterproductive, like how is this helping anyone?

  7. This is so disgusting, they are going to make it nearly impossible to vote in 2026 by any means neves because if they don’t they’ll lose the election handily

Maybe this will reduce the number of inbreds who never left their county from voting and result in the opposite effect.

  9. They’re a bunch of amateur hour fascists. Speaking as a non-American, you lot registered to vote really need to make sure you all vote. Even if you’ve voted R in the past, get out and vote – if in your heart you really approve of the shit being done in your name, you go ahead and vote that way – but know that what comes next is on you. Use your democratic prerogative while you still have one

Here comes the rigging of the midterms if we don’t stop this shit now.

    Shutdown everything.

  11. Time to make sure republicans never have any sort of power anymore. Clearly they love the idea of becoming the nazi facism they claimed to hate so much!

  12. Oh is it hard to get yourself a passport? Oh is that one of the most reliable ways to prove your citizenship? And to fly? And to vote? Here’s my shocked pikachu face. Of course they’re doing this. They want to be able to deport people they don’t like and it’s much easier to do when they don’t have their passport as many people wouldn’t be able to find their birth certificate (in the amount of time they are rushing these things and without due process). They also want to contain people in their general areas. They probably think people are flying around to protests. And then there’s the main reason, to keep you from voting. Because people who would have no issues getting their passports are closer to the people they think would vote for them than the ones who would struggle.
