    From the [article](https://newrepublic.com/post/206698/kristi-noem-homeland-security-employees-asbestos-poisoning):

    >When Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem demanded the urgent demolition of her agency’s 171-year-old campus in Washington, D.C., she claimed the structures were unsafe. But it turns out the more immediate threat to workers wasn’t the presence of “malicious insiders” looking to exploit the site’s weaknesses—it’s asbestos, Migrant Insider reported Tuesday.

    >Department of Homeland Security employees who worked at the agency’s facilities at St. Elizabeths described workers in full hazmat suits working alongside plainclothes DHS staff.

    >“It’s surreal,” one former DHS aide told Migrant Insider. “You’ve got guys in full PPE taking out asbestos, and then DHS staff in shirts and ties walking right by, breathing the same air.”

Deadly poison for poisonous ghouls. This is called reaping what you sow. That’s the toll you pay for working for murderers who don’t value human life.

Yeah, you should absolutely not be working in this building. Take a hazwoper class. Maybe you do not care about yourself, but asbestos clings to your clothes and you bring it home to your pets and kids.

  4. I can’t get over what she has done to her face. This is a mentally ill person in charge of national security.

  5. Yay something else the American Taxpayer will be paying out lawsuits for in the future…. mesothelioma lawsuits from this. /s

  6. The building was originally built as a government Hospital for the insane. Why is she ripping it down that’s exactly where she belongs.

Kristi Noem is one of Donald Trump’s fixers. She isn’t going anywhere no matter how much damage she does. There’s literally nothing she can do to get fired in her job because the only reason she was there was to protect Trump and since Republicans have all bent the knee to him to kiss the ring they won’t do shit to get rid of her.

I know that people treat this as comical incompetence, but these kinds of actions harm future generations. When the labor unions start filing complaints, when workers health and safety investigations start and claims for medical treatment, this all adds to the deficit. They keep destroying things without taking the time to follow the laws on the books so that future generations aren’t burdened with the fallout of their impulsive actions.

  9. When you give actual power to a person whose natural ceiling would be managing an Arby’s in a declining shopping mall…

  10. You mean clean, beautiful asbestos? Well thank goodness that got released into the air. Can’t be a good god-fearing American without a bunch of cancer.

  11. You can’t be serious. They would have told her it wouldn’t be safe for those people to keep working there.

  12. Remember MAGA, masks will suffocate you and Fauci wanted you to wear it. Don’t tread on me Fauci!

  13. The same is probably true of the East Wing of the White House. The original East Wing was built in 1902 and renovated in 1942, so odds are it was packed with asbestos. I don’t recall seeing anyone in hazmat suits or any mitigation tents while it was being demolished, so all that shit went went right into the air.

I just happened to run across a Veritasium video about asbestos last night, seems relevant: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMx139eTxoc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMx139eTxoc)

This is nasty shit. It can easily become airborne, does not degrade because it’s a mineral, and pieces tinier than hairs can get into your lungs then travel to any part of your body. Asbestos fibers have been found in every major organ after autopsies of people who were exposed.

  14. The trump administration’s notice to the workers:

You are expendable, replaceable and if you get sick there are plenty of mesothelioma lawyers to get your family money to bury you.

  15. The people who silently suffered under her for years when she was governor must be feeling so vindicated right now.

  16. Once Trump is out of office, every single one of these buildings is going to be searched for bugs, I’m not talking about insecticide, I’m talking about electronic bugs.

  17. This demolition needs to be halted. Both OSHA and EPA strictly regulate asbestos exposure – to BOTH the workers AND the surrounding community.

Hopefully, *someone* called the appropriate authorities.

How did they even find a demolition company who was willing to skip due diligence on this. Asbestos abatement is like a top line item for every gov contract I’ve seen, which is a lot over 10 years.
