After Promising to ‘Make America Healthy Again,’ Trump Mandates Production of Cancer-Causing Glyphosate: “President Trump just gave Bayer a license to poison people,” said one public health advocate. “Full stop.”
After Promising to ‘Make America Healthy Again,’ Trump Mandates Production of Cancer-Causing Glyphosate: “President Trump just gave Bayer a license to poison people,” said one public health advocate. “Full stop.”
>*Less than a decade ago, US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. helped win a landmark $289 million verdict against Monsanto, which was found to have distributed a weedkiller containing the carcinogenic chemical glyphosate.*
>But on Wednesday the nation’s top health official could only shrug after President Donald Trump issued an executive order mandating the production of the chemical, which was found by the World Health Organization in 2015 to cause cancer.
>Trump invoked the Defense Production Act, which has historically been used to spur production of supplies needed for national security, to guarantee the supply of herbicides containing glyphosate, claiming a lack of such weedkillers would “critically jeopardize agricultural productivity, adding pressure to the domestic food system.”
>*Kennedy, who like Trump promised on the campaign trail to confront dangerous pesticides and chemicals, said in a statement that the executive order* ***“puts America first where it matters most—our defense readiness and our food supply.”*** *He also hinted during his confirmation hearing last year that the administration would treat glyphosate as a critical supply for farmers.*
* Ken Cook, president and co-founder of the Environmental Working Group, which supported some aspects of Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” agenda, said he couldn’t “envision a bigger middle finger to every MAHA mom than this.”
* “If anyone still wondered whether ‘Make America Healthy Again’ was a genuine commitment to protecting public health **or a scam concocted by President Trump and RFK Jr. to rally health-conscious voters in 2024**, today’s decision answers that question,” said Cook. “It’s a shocking betrayal to all of us but especially the people who live and work near farm fields where glyphosate is used.”

MAHA thinks seed oils and petroleum-based dyes are bad for you. They also want to ban glyphosate. Extremely inconsistent, but hey, when your health policy is based on what the HHS secretary sees on TikTok, nothing makes sense anymore.

If exposed to RoundUp, according to the CDC, all negative effects are mitigated if you immediately put on Bawitdaba by Kid Rock, chug a half-gallon of whole raw milk, and begin a workout in jeans. We’re in nonsense territory where no aspect of the federal government gives a crap about human health. Act accordingly.

glyphosate does not cause cancer so they actually got this one right for a change, the lawsuit against monsanto relied on bad science to win its case.

I admittedly kept saying that the magnitude & frequency of self-contradictions is a key trait in all demented autocrats… but this time it, unfortunately, is running at such a level that it actually harms & kills people.
The return of the Dark Ages is something truly horrifying to see – and Umberto Eco probably spins in his grave, as he did predict that mankind (at least some parts of it) returns to the mindset of the Medieval man.

I mean, sometimes the online world loses the plot.
Glyphosate is a valuable chemical for controlling invasive species in restoration projects. So is triclopyr (another chemical with a scary-sounding name).
Other known carcinogens:
* Tobacco products
* Alcohol
* Grilled meats
* Sunlight
Point made, I hope.

It all makes sense to me. Big Pharma supported the Democrats so MAHA is making them suffer. Farmers, on the other hand, voted for Trump, so it is OK to let them poison Americans in return for their silence about how Trump has destroyed their livelihoods.

I still can’t believe Republicans want a President to govern by evoking emergency powers and dismantling years of regulatory and legislative actions through EO.

This is going to get buried, but glyphosate present on foods is considered by the EPA to be safe. However, there are studies of occupational exposures (spraying the chemical without proper PPE) increasing cancer risk. The dose makes the poison.

Before the election, several people told me that they didn’t like Trump, but they were voting for him because of RFK Jr who was finally going to make us healthy and ban harmful stuff from food. I asked them to explain how they thought that the party who hates regulations and makes it a platform to remove them was going to let RFK Jr ban any substance from food or elsewhere. No answer of course except to “trust him”. I hope they’re reading that post.
