What emergency is there? Aside from GOP interference via their PACs and billionaires controlling the voting machines, terrorist threats being phoned into democrat heavy voting areas, and gestapo goons intimidating voters at polling places?

No honesty, integrity, not even a shred if dignity in this man. A man that would steal a child’s innocence, will not hesitate to steal an election.

  3. EO aren’t laws. He can write one declaring the sky is green, doesn’t make it true.

He already floated this idea of cancellation , during the Minneapolis protests. He was thinking about the Insurrection Act.

Not that he will listen to the Supreme Court on this, but they would probably be fine with what he does, it’s just the money that needs their protection, not people.

  5. There is no taking something like that back. And it’s not a move that’s super open to interpretation. Something like that would really throw the country into chaos.

  6. Trump said on the campaign trail that vote for him and you’ll never have to vote again! He’s also talked about canceling the midterms a lot and more than likely started the war with Iran to use it as an excuse to cancel the midterms to have absolute control and power over the house and senate. The tragic part is not that he will try to cancel the midterm elections but the GOP will support him in canceling the midterms and then the 2028 elections.

Taking away the ballot box leaves only the ammo box.

Irresponsible and dangerous, a cornered animal will harm anything in its vicinity.

I don’t even know if it will be necessary. There are still four more congressional races before midterms. All special elections. Plus a few of the more scared Republicans are starting to grumble loudly. There is an opportunity to take the house before November.

Are we all agreed that, if this happens, we will take to the streets finally and storm the actual white house?

He can’t cancel an election, but if he does, it doesn’t mean the reps that would have been up for election are still reps, it means we have no reps in those positions. It also means that we need to take decisive and permanent action to make sure it doesn’t happen that way!

  11. Jesus, just to clarify. EOs do not create any rights or obligations. Even the same EOs published literally say so. All they do is direct agencies to do something. That’s all they do. He signs an EO stating that there is an emergency; it just means that the US government, within the legal powers it has, must make any decision based on the premise that there is an emergency. This does not mean that he created new law out of thin air.

It’s clear we need new constitutional amendments after this administration.

That isn’t a thing. He would need three fourth states agreement. I’m confident he can’t get that.

People saying „shit will hit the fan if it happens“ „if they take the ballot box we are only left with the ammo box“, I hear you, I applaud you and no front, but I think it’s BS.

Country’s are different. I don’t think the US has much of a protest/strike culture that would make a difference, especially not anything left of the republicans. No disrespect but there hasn’t been any real blowback to anything Trump has done. No governor has had the balls to openly and effectively oppose him. And there were things they could have done: getting their PDs in line with them, having police at the scene when ICE was operating to document overreach, brutality and to document who gets taken where, forcing ICE to process detainees through local PD so they can’t disappear people and keep a paper trail (due process), stopping ICE from taking people with documentation or citizenship. None of that has happened, they have killed people and the agents haven’t been immediately arrested.

I don’t think the people that matter are organized enough to go out on their own, knowing how Trump’s „SA“ (Sturmabteilung, look it up) is acting without impunity and not knowing whether their state or anyone else but the people are going to back them up (for what people are insinuating you need some law enforcement/military/national guard to break ranks and be on the side of the people) and make a difference.

I think the necessary organization might happen at some point but I think it will only be when they have taken control over the elections. Start organizing, start local, protect your neighborhoods and expand from there! Rooting for you and for all of us since the US turning a white nationalist dictatorship as the biggest economy and military power threatens this whole planet!

Trump is absolutely going to try, but he is going to fail in spectacular fashion. Of all the chaotic stunts he has pulled, this is the one with the least chance of working. There has never been a time in history when we have cancelled elections. He does not seem to grasp that the Federal Government has zero authority over elections. States run them, which is why voting laws differ so much from one state to another. For him to pull this off, he would need cooperation from the states, and he is not getting that from blue governors. Even Kentucky has a Democratic governor. And not every red governor is going to throw their career away by joining something blatantly illegal. This is the one scheme that is doomed from the start.

The President declaring a national voting emergency a year after winning the presidency is wild. Wildly corrupt.

  17. batlord_typhus on

It’s a good thing trump isn’t evil, or he would likely stage a domestic terror attack to achieve his goal of remaining in power. That’s totally inconceivable though, it’s not like the power block blackmailing trump believes the ends justify the means to power.

National voting emergency? What idiot made that up? They’re desperate. Trump can’t control elections through executive order. Since Congress won’t shut him down, the Supreme Court will probably have to step in. I’m mostly curious about the timing they would use on this “emergency”.

  19. Does anyone else remember the conspiracy that Obama was going to institute martial law to get a third term? Maybe it was just in my area, but I heard it a lot from the rednecks back then. I’ve thought about it often lately.

    Edit: Idiocy correction.

  20. This is laughable. The United States held the Presidential Election in 1864. During the Civil War.

Trump is basically in the same shape he was in in 2024 maybe worst so much corruption and not to mention Epstein

  22. We, “The People” will unite and all will vote Trump Out of office as well as GOP that supports him and his cronies. Release all the Epstein files.
    Subpoena Trump and Melania.

  23. 1. This headline is dumb.

    2. Everybody saying this is nothing is missing how this will actually work. Red states and red areas of blue/purple states will use this EO as a pretext to run up voting margins in favor of the GOP in their respective areas cancelling out the tremendous swing we’ve seen in multiple elections since Trump took office and unleashed the Project 2025 plan.

It’s far far far past time that the masses drag politicians and billionaires into the middle of the street and stone them to death.
