If the current reactors were competitive, it might make more sense to nationalize them, if we’re going to have to provide free insurance anyway. Since they’re not competitive, though, it depends on how SMRs pan out.

If a disaster happens, they are capped at contributing $16 billion, the rest is picked up by tax payers, which doesn’t include the normal waste management, which is already snowballed into hundreds of billions since 1990.
