The Iranians are incentivized to keep this going – and they have leverage over western pressure points at the moment

I don’t think either Iran or the United States will “win” a war like this. Of course, it also depends on what one means by “winning.” Trump himself has offered a range of different, often contradictory explanations of what the United States actually wants.

The real geopolitical objective is likely to restore the dollar’s role as the primary currency for oil trade while at the same time restricting China’s access to energy supplies. Those are goals that both Russia and China will strongly oppose.

As we’ve seen in Ukraine and Syria, there is an obvious risk that the conflict could turn into a prolonged proxy war between the United States and Russia, where one side supplies the regime with weapons while the other arms rebel groups. In that kind of scenario, there are no real winners. In the end, it is the Iranian people who would pay the highest price.

It would be far better if all parties focused their efforts on taking care of their own citizens instead of playing great-power games and pretending war is a solution. I sincerely hope Europe doesn’t allow itself to be drawn into it.

The president of the US just plunged the country into a war without any plan, without Congress’ approval, and had no idea what the consequences could be or how it’s supposed to end. The incompetence is staggering. Impeach this utter failure!

  4. well people everywhere in the world are going to be buying EV’s except in the US of course, where they won’t let them in and stabbed anyone in the face that wanted to make them there

  5. From the article:

For Donald Trump, the news is getting worse on his war against Iran.

The [New York Times reports that the Trump team badly miscalculated Iran’s response](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/10/us/politics/how-trump-miscalculated-iran-response.html) to the American invasion, leading to a developing energy fiasco.

The Times also reports that some officials are pessimistic about the lack of any real strategy to end the war, adding this: “They have been careful not to express that directly to the president, who has repeatedly declared that the military operation is a complete success.”

Their fear of telling Trump the truth about the situation is highly unnerving. With Iran’s closing of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump can’t easily end the war even if he wanted to.

After Trump administration officials gave a closed-door briefing to lawmakers on Tuesday, Sen. Chris Murphy said the administration had no plan for the Strait of Hormuz and did “not know how to get it safely back open.”

I need to ask an idiot’s question.

Can’t the first step of extrication simply be stopping?

  7. Well when you couple that with a DoD secretary more interested in lobster and his looks than in the war, what could go wrong?

  8. Trump has never gone to war. He’s authorised force, but he’s never actually gone to war. For a business man it’s the equivalent of the difference between agreeing a single sale, and agreeing a wholesale acquisition into a new area of business.

For a politician in a democracy going to war and doing so successfully you need the following.

Strong ethical values and a clear vision.

An operationally independent military who can a be held to account to achieve strategic goals set by politicians whilst allowed the operational freedom to determine how to deliver those goals. With actual tactics permitted within approved parameters set by politicians. If the strategic goals can’t be achieved within those parameters then the military need to be able to say so.

Trump venerates Churchill, but unlike Trump, Churchill had the following CV.

He had actually been an army officer and seen war first hand.

He had been a political leader and made strategic military decisions that failed through the execution, planning and failed strategic assessment (Gallipoli)

Churchill pushed the Gallipoli campaign in the face of doubts from the navy, but it was approved by cabinet (sound familiar). When it failed he was removed from office.

Churchill learned a lot from this. In WW2 he used clarity of mission and message to get over his goals.

“We will fight them on the beaches. We will never surrender”

He still made blunders, but overall he learned what was required as a political leader in the military sphere.

Trump has none of this. Not only that he’s surrounded himself with sycophants who have none of the required skillset either. Combined with an emasculated military who are seconds away from being fired if they tell the emperor that they aren’t the best thing in the world.

Some day in the future Trump will meet Nero in a higher place, and they’ll no doubt compare notes.

  9. Trump thinks the “woke” students protesters in Iran are going to save his day. The BBC interviewed an Iranian military officer yesterday who said protesters in the streets will be treated as enemy combatants and shot. Didn’t sound so different than when Trump wanted to do the same to protesters in Washington Sq a few years back and DOJ is already calling protesters “domestic terrorist”.

  10. Can’t wait to see the GOP complain about war in Iran when DEMs take over again and demanding concessions to keep the war and stabilization efforts going

  11. This explains the torrent of pro trump bullshit from multiple new sources on facebook.

Calling it a clown show is an insult to circus performers.

Did anyone even thank their president this morning for his courage to strike the girls school?

  14. The office of the Presidency needs to be neutered. It shouldn’t be possible for the executive branch alone to plunge us into a war that nobody wants.

  15. Iran asked for reparations as a start to talk. If we can give our ” greatest ally ” over a billion dollars almost every year no reason why we cant.

trump lost an entire war in 3 days. impressive how short it is, even for him

  17. This is that time when you start to regret rejecting the offer from a friend who offers you anti-model-airplane model airplanes.

LPT: when starting a war of choice against a militarily inferior country, it can be a bad idea to reject gifts from your friends who have recent experience.

Despite this ill-advised war executed by an incompetent president surrounded by even more incompetent sycophants, he and his henchmen won’t suffer for it.

Every week there is some new outrage and his base always eventually falls in line.

  19. It’s pretty clear the only way to open the strait and get out of this will involve ground forces and navy and end up with heavy casualties. So yeah dumb fuck move

  20. YouTubers knew more about how this would play out than the american president. That’s all you need to know.

  21. CrushTheRebellion on

Donald Trump has done the exact opposite of everything he promised to do when he ran in 2024. He is destroying America piece by piece, and I’m not sure if the country can ever recover from making the mistake of electing him president a second time.

  22. Imagine, the stupidest diaper filling president, leading the stupidest sycophantic cabinet, leading the stupidest, most malignant, iteration of a political party, made selfish, destructive, ill informed murderous decisions…. It would look just like this

  23. we_are_sex_bobomb on

It’s yet another problem introduced by this child rapist nepo baby motherfucker that will take years, possibly decades for us to untangle ourselves from.

The President of Peace can look forward to the fact that we will probably still be fighting this stupid pointless war he started when he finally passes like a kidney stone in the night.

Trump killed the new Iranian leader’s father. Wife. And his sister. This is going to last a long long long time.

  26. Minimum-South-9568 on

Stupid Americans treat elections like a game show and don’t debate real policy that enables shit like this, I.e. congress delegating war making powers to the executive. Can we stop fucking treating elections like a reality tv show and instead focus on actual reform?

  27. They are atrocities not blunders. If you blow up a fucking school to distract the world from your child sexual assault you are not blundering you are committing atrocities.

  28. We Americans have the attention span of a goldfish, and the administration knows it. Some pop star will get a dui next week and it’ll all be forgotten.

  29. Unhelpful_Idiot on

Not a single person around Trump is allowed to point out the fact that Israel and America’s aims at Iran are at odds with one another. The two countries shared interests in having some conflict with Iran but that’s where it ends:

America wants Iran to be subservient to American Interests. Functional but cowed.

Israel wants an eternal war that touches American soil so that no legitimate political group in The US will ever question Israel’s funding.
