Taylor is trans, sure, but has a JD from the Cardoza School of Law in New York, has worked as an attorney for Lambda Legal, the ACLU, and as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division of the New York State AG Office. She’s well qualified for such a position, which really should be the center of any discussion.

Who could be better? If you want an advocate, why not one of their own?

Republicans are publicly raging against her while privately masturbating to her

The city is already in a massive budget crisis, but sure let’s add another pointless government department why not?

  5. This is why the dems lose votes- they use instances like these to attack the left. When are we going to get smart and not run on identity politics

  6. Remember all the chuds on twitter before the election saying mandani would implement sharia law

  7. Mayor Mamdani still hasn’t taken action against the hospitals in NYC that are breaking NY law by no longer providing trans healthcare to trans youth, though.

Wish he would uphold that campaign promise. I _want_ Mamdani to be successful and show that legitimate trans positive leadership is possible for Democratics in office.

I’d spend this extra money on healthcare or something, but whatever. Always funny to see Americans doing some weird stupid shit

  9. We need more letters in that acronym, can easily hit all 26 letters in the alphabet given NYs recognizing whatever you want to be.

    > What will the New York City Mayor’s Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs do?

    > The Mayor’s Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs has been designed as a centralizing force in municipal government to oversee and coordinate resources and initiatives concerning LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers.

    > The office will also be tasked with enforcing equality guidelines, helping ensure that discrimination based on gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation does not occur in other city agencies.

    > The office will also develop and strengthen resources to uphold the city’s sanctuary protections for LGBTQIA+ individuals. This particular commitment carries even more weight as President Donald Trump continues to wage a coordinated campaign against the LGBTQ+ community, which has led to the[ erasure of transgender references from the official Stonewall National Monument website](https://www.out.com/news/transgender-removed-stonewall-national-monument-lgbtq) in 2025 and the[ removal of the LGBTQ+ Pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument](https://www.out.com/news/stonewall-monument-camera-campaign) in 2026.

    > In addition, the new office will absorb the[ NYC Unity Project](https://www.nyc.gov/content/unityproject/pages/) — the existing city initiative that coordinates services for LGBTQ+ New Yorkers — and is committed to expanding it.

Even after reading this I’m still not sure what the Office actually does or how it works. Is it a team of lawyers that will take cases regarding discrimination? Or does it coordinate with the ACLU’s team of lawyers for that before handing cases to them?

Well this is just great. Now that Mamdani’s proposing we lower estate tax base to $750,000, most LGBTQIA people will have to leave the city along with any other middle class people who can bail. I mean, if you own an apartment in the city and die, your partner and your children will have to sell that home to pay the taxes. That’s really being supportive of LGBTQIA people’s rights to be accepted and valued members of society./s But it’s nice he’s making an office for them.

    Fuck Mamdani

Aren’t they trying to close a multi billion-dollar deficit in the city budget? I wonder how creating this virtue-signalling “office” will help. 🤔
