Wow, what a dumb take. We can point out that Trump is unprepared AND ask for the war to end..

Maybe something to do with how many of them get lots of money to carry water for Israeli aggression in the region? To the extent that folks like Schumer and Graham don’t even pretend that their priority is representing their constituents any more.

Not having a plan is highly correlated to the amount of suffering this situation will inflict in innocent people.
It’s also a very low bar to clear. We can argue about whether toppling a stable regime is a good idea. But doing so without any idea how you’re going to do it, and without a pan for what happens after, is pretty irrefutably a bad thing.

Of course Republicans will still portray them that way regardless.

It’s kind of hard to call for the war to end after it’s started. I mean you can, but that means nothing. If you want to go that route Trump has called for the war to end because he’s already claimed victory. As Vietnam proved, as Afghanistan proved, as Iraq proved, it’s too late to want to stop the war after it’s already started.
Let’s say you waved a magic wand and Trump was out of office tomorrow and America had a peace party in charge. Functionally what could they do? Iran isn’t going to agree to America just saying “Mea Culpa” and leaving.

Dear Congresswoman Pelosi,
You may recognize these names. They voted with republicans.
Jared Golden (Maine), Henry Cuellar (Texas), Greg Landsman (Ohio), and Juan Vargas (California).
The democrats in Congress had the votes to stop war powers act. Trump is now leading us to ruin. You may notice a specific name on that list, Henry Cuellar. You consistently endorsed him in the primary over progressive challenger Jessica Cisneros.
This fact will forever remind me why we are in such a grave predicament, and my children will be facing another forever war, no doubt with the threat of a draft.
Disappointed is a word that comes to mind of your unfathomable historic blunder.

Calling it out provides the rationale for putting an immediate end to this war.
It holds the Trump administration accountable, pushes back against their lies about the pretext for this war and their inconsistent messaging, especially when it comes to their motivations and goals moving forward.
The US hasn’t accomplished anything the Trump administration supposedly set out to do in this needless war.
Trump is contradicting himself left and right because he has no clue what he’s doing.
Trump’s plans for what’s next in this war, let alone its endgame, remain ambiguous at best while Iran refuses to “unconditionally surrender” and submit to his performative demands on social media.
Instead, the Iranian regime has named Ayatollah’s pigheaded son as his successor, who is just as much a hardliner as his father, and who we’ve managed to radicalize all the more after killing his entire family. He also has deep connections and sway with the IRGC, and 20% of the Iranian people still support the Islamic Republic.
The messaging of Trump and his allies has wavered from one moment to the next. To the point where they’re employing Orwellian levels of doublespeak.
Meanwhile, Trump’s only consistent concern has been with rising oil prices and market volatility because he prioritizes his ratings and the interests of the rich over anything else.
It’s important to ask: What the f-ck have we accomplished?
The oppressive, theocratic regime remains intact.
We managed to turn an already dying Ayatollah into a martyr in the eyes of his most radicalized followers.
His death is being portrayed as a victory, and while it’s certainly a win for many, killing him doesn’t amount to “regime change.”
Moreover, war is only *expanding* in the middle east while conflicts are being reignited between forces like Israel and Hezbollah.
This could lead to drawn out fighting, more terrorist provocations and infighting, even civil war(s)
Iran’s nuclear/missile programs did NOT pose an imminent threat to us before the war according to all US intelligence and reporting on the matter. But if Iran ever needed a practical reason for upscaling its nuclear missile capabilities, Trump and Netanyahu just provided them with one.
And now the US/Israel are bombing Iran indiscriminately with no sympathy or regard for the civilians they’re supposed to be “liberating.”
Preliminary figures show that nearly 1,500 civilians have already died as a result of this war; including at least 160 *children* at the hands of the US.
Residents of Tehran are terrified as bombings intensify and as strikes draw closer to residential areas and hit non military infrastructure.
Some Iranians have expressed doubts about whether “regime change” is even realistic and about whether this war will leave them better off than when it began
The US has also squandered billions of dollars worth of military equipment, technology and weapons systems.
The war is estimated to be costing taxpayers close to $2 billion every day it drags on. Not to mention the cost of future military operations to fix this disaster.
US troops are dead. We’re killing innocent noncombatants and children; bombing hospitals and schools, heritage sites, civilian infrastructure and facilities that are important to Iran’s economy.
As it stands, Iranians have no power to mount resistance, but Trump is telling them to “rise up” and “overtake” their government so HE can avoid having to take responsibility for the chaos that follows while he desperately searches for an offramp because his chief concerns are his declining ratings and surging oil prices.
The Iranian people will march to their deaths because “regime change” is improbable unless we put boots on th ground and Iranians are far from being “liberated” from their violent and repressive government.
Meanwhile, global trade is being disrupted, markets are volatile, oil prices are rising…
The US economy is a mess. Trump’s policies were exploding the debt and deficit *before* the war even started. Who knows the economic outlook moving forward.
We’ve also alienated middle east allies and bombed Iran twice during negotiations, which doesn’t bode well for the future of negotiations with ANY country.
Ignoring lessons from history about what happens when we try “regime change” in the middle east, Trump launched an illegal war under false pretenses, with little to no actual support from the American people, and a conflict that has always been one of choice, nor of necessity.
This war isn’t about “freedom” and “liberation.” Hell, I’ll go out on a limb and say this war isn’t about regime change either…
This was always about realizing Netanyahu’s decades-long dream of waging a vicious and full-throated war against Iran.
This is about Trump’s ego, about him demonstrating the might of the US military which he no doubt sees as a reflection of his own strength. It’s about signaling to the rest of the world that Trump can cut off the head of any government that opposes him.
Trump doesn’t care about Democratic norms, nor the human rights and dignity of his own people. Are we really expected to believe that he has an inkling of sympathy for Iranians?
No! For fuck’s sake, Islamophobia and anti-middle eastern sentiments have been at the heart of the GOP’s culture wars and propaganda.
Trump has also categorically refused to take in or aid refugees from the region, unless he can somehow use it as a political selling point.
Take Venezuela as an example too. Trump removed Maduro from power but kept the oppressive government intact in exchange for their cooperation. So much for liberating the people…
Trump’s foreign policies have made powerful adversaries like China more formidable global players, all while our sworn enemies have only become more radicalized in their fight against US imperialism.
We’ve alienated our western allies, along with our middle eastern allies too. Especially since our military interventions have caused the closure of the Strait of Hormuz; forcing some of our allies in the Persian Gulf to shut in their oil wells, which they’re sure as hell not happy about.
More broadly, Trump has soured the world against us, he’s withdrawn from long standing global alliances and our former Democratic partners are now cooperating with one another to establish a new world order that *excludes* the US because we’re now viewed as a hostile, belligerent and troublesome country that can no longer be trusted, respected, accommodated…
