Put another way, the gas you get from the world’s largest gas field is much worse for the climate than coal is.
So much for the industry’s “clean blue flame” nonsense.
This is likely one of the reasons why the fossil fuel industry has been spending so much money to lobby just about every relevant high-ranking official in the U.S. federal government. The fewer laws/regulations of natural gas production are on the books, the easier it becomes to hide excessive pollution such as in this case, and thus avoid the (well-deserved) penalties for it.
