  1. Wonder how TSA folks are going to feel about ICE showing up to get paid to stand around and try to look tough.

This is the point where essential workers realize they’re being treated as disposable.
You can’t pay rent with patriotism, and you definitely can’t put gas in your car with a promised back check that might be weeks away. These record call outs aren’t a strike, they’re a financial necessity for people who literally can’t afford the commute to work for $0.
Expect security theater to turn into a total collapse at the major hubs this week. If you’re flying, get to the airport four hours early or just don’t go.

  3. They aren’t getting paid. We should be surprised that any of them are showing up.

I would love to see the faces of the TSA workers as they try and train the ICE goons.

The Dems said pull TSA funding out as a separate item and we will vote on it.
    Gpedo party refused.

yeah that’s what happens when you don’t pay people

    makes sense they’d call out

    good for them honestly

  7. Sorry i’m from the pre tsa era and see them as nothing more than george bush’s little gang of thieves and bullies

Just because ice is worse doesn’t make them the good guys

  8. Simplehoaxes on

That’s the plan! Starve out TSA, weaken it, the call has been made, TSA is gonna be rolled into ICE so they can continue their terror campaign at the airports.

ICE is funded at $72 billion! bigger than some foreign countries’ armies.

Republicans don’t want TSA funded, this is a made up crisis. This is next level escalation of our eroding democracy.

  9. Legally, do they still have to call off? If you use your time off, but you’re not being paid, do you have to burn PTO you have acquired? Genuinely curious.

Or will they be back paid for the PTO they have taken?

Find new employment if you can.

The Federal government is broken and may not come back to any semblance of normality.

The Democrats have tried daily to get their budget passed. Guess who votes no to that?

If I had a job that only paid me half the time, then I would seek a new job. Of course, only paying workers half the time is the capitalist dream.

  13. This administration started a war and opened the gates to the kingdom and stopped paying the guards at the door. IS ANYONE ELSE SEEING THIS, FFS

Apparently getting the shitty pay you were promised is kinda important. Our government is broken….

Imagine some ICE dipshit sitting at the X-ray scanner trying to figure out what’s going on. My dog might as well be volunteering

  16. Tyrant_Virus_ on

I have no idea why anyone would sign up to be a TSA agent when you are the first in line to get totally fucked every time there’s a shutdown.

  17. I wonder if any travelers could tell a difference from the usual glacial pace of security screenings?

  18. game_of_crohns on

So during a time of “war” we’re going to stop securing the airports properly?

I’m not the smartest guy in the room but that seems like a really bad choice.

  19. Interesting that ICE has the funding to send its agents to airports yet republicans want even more money (for ICE), but wont increase budget for TSA agents. Even if ICE agents sent to airports, what’s their role? They have little training as it is.

Why have the TSA? Hijackings are impossible with modern cockpit doors. Are we still afraid of mr shoebomb?

And I bet any next terrorist attack would be something other than planes. A Subway attack maybe, or a drone strike at a nuclear facility, etc.

Just basic walk true detectors would be fine. And its been proven that smuggling some pistol (polymers) onboard can’t be stopped anyway.

  21. Anyone notice how whenever Trump is in power, basic societal functions starts to break down? Covid was just the warmup, wait and see where we are in three years.

  22. I bet many of them remember how they or their coworkers were treated last time when they promised a bonus for coming to work whilst unpaid. If you missed even an hour, they got nothing. Fool me once, …

In most civilized countries, the ability to pass a budget is a make or break for the governing party/parties. In Australia, being unable to pass a budget twice in a row results in a double dissolution election where every single lower and senate seat is up for grabs, and the party that was in power has historically been punished severely for their inability to govern.

Now I know why people stay in abusive relationships. I’m happy for these people who have left or called off.

  24. The_Pandalorian on

Dang, hope they start harassing Republicans who rejected a deal to pay them.
