    >He insisted no one anticipated that Iran would attack other countries in an effort to widen the war. But this was widely expected, and amusingly, in saying that, Trump revealed that *he* didn’t anticipate it. That’s a striking admission about *his own* lack of foresight. Which captures something broader: On many fronts, Trump didn’t prepare for eventualities that most experts fully did anticipate.

    From the article.

This is so troubling that he openly admits that he is not listening to any experts and is just doing whatever he wants.

The whole world can see what we’ve been trying to tell you for a decade MAGA. The guy has no clue what he’s doing, no business being the president, and it is a travesty that the lives of our service members are in his hands.

I’m just an internet stranger. Who cares what I say, but what about your mom, or dad, grandparent(s), brother, sister, cousin, or that friend that’s been jumping up and down screaming that this guy is way too flawed to be president??? At what point do you admit they were right?

You know, you don’t get to be right 100% of the time, right? Maybe they got this one.

“You know who looks really attractive to the Iranians right now? North Korea. No one is talking about bombing North Korea because everyone understands what North Korea could do in response. So if anything, this war has just made a nuclear weapon much, much more attractive to Iran—and frankly to any other country that needs an insurance policy against a predatory United States.”

Friendly reminder that Republicans could end this whenever if they wanted to. This is not just on Trump. The entire Republican party is fascist terrorists.

  5. ImpressiveMethod8624 on

Well he said he was willing to do what every other president was smart enough not to of course because they got their intelligence from the plethora of military and scientists devoted to the president instead of fox news. They seriously need to put a toilet over this stools grave.

  6. If only the US already had an agreement in place with Iran limiting their nuclear program there would be no reason for this war…

  7. Ornery-Ticket834 on

It’s not fair Iran targeted other countries. That’s what this dummy says. It’s too foolish for words.

  8. Just proves he acts on a whim and on a fancy. Without even a concept of a plan in place.

The region is a tinderbox and Trump has set it ablaze. The conflagration can easily draw other nations into direct war, lasting for months, or even years. Kiss goodbye to cheap fossil fuels.

I’ve always maintained that the scariest reality in the world is that no one is in control, and no one knows what the fuck they’re doing. Most of the most powerful people in the world are blundering through life just like everyone else. It becomes especially terrifying when lives are at stake. Trump’s not playing 4D chess. He’s playing in a sandbox with literally no consequences. We never punished Bush for the bumbling campaign in Iraq (which accomplished nothing). I feel like only threat of jail or death for war crimes is the only thing that would make presidents think twice about stupid decisions like this.

  11. StillTrying1981 on

Well colour me shocked. Trump didn’t spend time understanding the potential outcomes and jump in without all of the information? But he’s always been such a balanced and considered president….

  12. The lack of intellectual curiosity in this man is showing as he admits he did not anticipate Iran’s reaction.

Can we return to calculated leadership?

  13. It’s not much more complicated than “oh shit, the Epstein files are the only thing in the news cycle right now, what can we do to shift the news cycle? Let’s do a quick war with Iran – in, out, no one remembers Epstein.”

Bluffing will do that. Create a disaster> aim to play hero after> take credit for fixing mess is his m.o. He still thinks someone will bail him out and fix his mistake like everyone’s done all his life.

  15. Bishopjones2112 on

This man doesn’t think past the cheeseburger in his mouth. Seriously, has no idea of the repercussions of his actions. From tariffs to health care and this war. The economy is slowing and pushing towards instability. His actions on budget and economy alone can increase stress on individuals and systems, combine that with the economic fallout of this war and the outlook is bleak. When this continues in Iran and oil reached 150$ a barrel and stays there for a while it will have critical impact to the overall economic system potentially triggering a systemic collapse of the American economy. The billionaires will end up ok losing a lot of money but in the end will be fine. The rest of Americans will lose more than some money. It will be a cascading effect that will impact every American.

This man bankrupted more than six businesses, and committed fraud many times over. Now he is doing it to the country while he uses it to make money and build monuments to himself.

None of this is news. *None* of it.

The fact that Trump acts impulsively and makes shit up? Not news.

The fact that Trump doesn’t listen to anyone who disagrees with him? Not news.

The fact that Iran would retaliate against anyone involved in attack them? Not news, not surprising.

Netanyahu knew he had an idiot he could manipulate into ignoring anyone with sane judgement, and he jumped at it.

Add in that Hegseth so badly wants to do what he *thinks* makes people view him as a tough guy, and here we are. Of course, the reality is that everything Hegseth says and does just projects weakness and insecurity.

If Republicans in congress had any patriotism, Trump would be removed from office.

800 million in trades made on oil minutes before he announced talks another grift.

We’re dealing with an adversary that’s fundamentally hostile to the U.S. and Western interests—this isn’t something a few weeks of bombing is going to change. If anything, this looks like it’s trending toward a prolonged, high-risk conflict. Iran isn’t trying to win conventionally—they’re leaning into asymmetric warfare to inflict maximum pressure on U.S. forces and regional infrastructure. The real leverage point is economic, and that’s where they’re having the most impact. Disrupting energy flows and global markets is a strategy, and so far, it’s working.

What concerns me most is how we got here in the first place. The justification around nuclear weapons feels shaky at best, and there doesn’t seem to be a clear plan for managing the downstream economic consequences. Between an already fragile situation with tariffs and now potential oil disruptions, this could compound into something much bigger and more costly for consumers.

Bottom line: this isn’t a quick-hit conflict, and the end state is anything but clear.

Trump and the rest of MAGA are not serious people. They fundamentally believe that problems existed because incompetent or bad people were at the helm (the swamp) and that they would be able to fix everything if only they got their hands on the steering wheel. They are the height of arrogant privilege and arrogance

Now they are in power. They own both houses, the executive, and the courts. They are upending everything. They are making massive changes to institutions, policies, and alliances

But they are also seeing that problems aren’t so easy to solve. Tariffs cut both ways and the economy is in the trash can. Other nations like Canada,Greenland, Spain haven’t just rolled over to US whims. Other countries are re-aligning and forming new partnerships. Iran is fighting asymmetrically

But Trump and MAGA don’t really care that they are wrong. They’re not trying to learn, do better, or achieve a common good. They benefit from chaos. They are grifting and timing their investments of hundreds of millions of dollars based on their policy announcements. They are in all likelihood accepting bribes from foreign powers. Why else does Trump want a personal say in picking the next leader of Iran?

The GOP is complicit in letting MAGA take over. The DNC is only putting up token resistance to capture the disenfranchised vote. The oligarchs have won and capitalism has killed democracy in the US.

  22. What’s most troubling is that nobody can do anything about it. The US of A has no resilience against such persons.

It’s going to be even worse when Iran sinks the MEU trying to cross the strait of Hormuz. It’s going to be absolutely bloody and will be a humiliating defeat for America. For shits and giggles I’ve asked google Gemini what would happen if an MEU tries to invade the strait of Hormuz and Kharg island. It told me it’s not worth talking about things that would never happen because it would be such a catastrophic failure. Even AI refuses to believe that anyone would try anything this stupid. If Iran can shoot down an F35 those ospreys are going to be literally sitting ducks (if it doesn’t crash on its own).

this isn’t a “blunder.” it’s an illegal and offensive war against a country that didn’t attack us.

  29. Trump may be the most expensive person ever. Almost every single person on the planet must pay more for daily goods because of his extremely incosiderate decisions.

How that is a good president? That is very hard to understand.

  30. homerjaythompson on

So with bases surrounding Iran in several different countries, he didn’t anticipate that they would retaliate and strike those bases?

  31. BradlyPitts89 on

I’m no expert but even I realize that attacking Iran, no matter how you want to look at it, is not ending in weeks or months.

  32. Calm_Chemist_4952 on

It’s all about damage control now. This is exactly what to expect from the absolute worst president of all time. He’s got to be cut loose. Impeach and convict. The sooner the better.

  33. He made sure no one with any foresight was around to correct him. Nothing but yes men surrounding him all in the hopes of capitalizing on the Trump grift. His and their greed and stupidity have now involved everyone else, both ally and enemy alike. Well, except for Iran and Russia which are both enjoying shipping and selling their oil to the highest bidder. Charlie Foxtrot all the way around.
