In the Senate, yes, but not the House. At least, that’s the last I heard.

No, because *no one* wins a government shutdown and if we had any sense we’d make it so Congress itself didn’t get paid for not doing its job during the shutdown, too.

Not when the House rejects it. Even then I’m not sure much was accomplished.

They haven’t completely rolled over yet, so I’m pleasantly surprised. They’ve managed to allow the infighting amongst republicans to take center stage today. I don’t see a world where the republicans cave on ICE reforms so this is probably as good as it gets. That said, it’s gonna be hard to say either side is a winner when this is all said and done. It’s more of a battle to see who is a bigger loser.
Bigbrown545 on
On paper, I guess. But there’s no real value in the victory. ICE is already heavily funded through 2029 and Republicans are likely not going to make any significant reforms.

House Republicans just handed Democrats the victory. People wanted this over, Republicans are going to get the blame for failing to end the shutdown. Real stupid considering the midterms are in 7 months.
I guess rising inflation, unemployment and a stupid war weren’t enough for Republicans.

House Republicans appear to have decided that they need to be even more insane, so yes.

This failed on the orders of Trump. Now, he can issue a presidential proclamation and illegally pay the TSA workers, setting a precedent for ever more power being gobbled up by the executive and the congress ceding its power.

When you think about it, there were no reforms to ice, and ice will eventually get funded. So the initiative did fail but also democrats did everything within their power and did not buckle.
But also, here comes the house to stop this outcome. Shutdown’s still going, fight’s still on.

They won the last one too.
They’ve been winning government shutdown fights.
Every time Republicans do a shutdown (basically every time Republicans have the House) Democrats win on policy and messaging generally.

>Did the Democrats Just Win a Government Shutdown Fight?
Not yet. Johnson has rejected allowing the Senate bill to come to a vote in the House. The partial shutdown will continue for now.
Dems passed a vote without ice funding, that was good enough
The ones that shot down the deal was house republicans. And they likely did so because Trump wants his save act to be voted on or he wont do anything else. His words. He will lame duck himself because congress wont do it

Nobody is winning a goddamn thing right now. America is an unfixable mess and they’re all to blame. The media is also complicit and won’t say something like that because they want that cash flow no matter how bad things get.
