If the Iranian regime survives, it can arguably make the claim to have won this war. It’s pretty obvious that Trump and Netanyahu were hoping that their latest act of aggression would topple the Iranian regime, and would result in a clean transition to something more friendly to US and Israeli interests. That hasn’t, and likely won’t, happen. They suffered from the same delusion that the George W. Bush administration had about a post-Saddam Iraq.
In fact, Trump has given the Islamic Republic a gift it never could have achieved on its own. In a country where resistance to foreign control is usually a source of legitimacy, Trump’s war has handed the Islamic Republic an opportunity to demonstrate its staying power against foreign attack.

Here’s the problem. Presidents usually don’t pick a fight with an adversary that kinda has an unspoken immunity. It’s not a good idea to fuck with them. In the middle east, there is no a “losing in war” narrative. All wars against Israel which are globally considered won by Israel are reframed in Arab nations as subduing Israel. Even gazans today claim a win over Israel.
Iranian regime as well are incapable of admitting that the war hurts them badly, so they instead boast a winning narrative.
You may criticize this war, it definitely failed in many aspects, but you don’t have to echo the terror regime’s warped description of events.
